Would you take a check written out to your abbreviated first name and last initial?

This girl owes me $408 and today I got a check from a friend of hers.

Let's say my name was Andrew, and I always went by Andrew, and my last name was Washington, then using that example, the check was written out to me as "Drew W".

I'm trying to track her down so she can either write me a new check or at least right out my last name. It's not exactly a small check I want to have bounced for something so silly, but I figure it's safer to err on the side of caution.

It will probably be fine, but that would annoy me. It will be fine unless she refutes it when it goes through, I think.

so her FRIEND wrote you a check? I didn't catch that part. Any chance she stole a check and forged it?

Cause I can't write like her, and I also don't know what kind of pen she used, doesn't look like the boldness/thinkness of any I have.

The girl that owes me the money wrote the check and gave it to her friend, who delivered it to me. Sorry, I can see that wasn't clear in my first post.

Bingo. Don't deposit it to your account unless you want to get charged for a returned deposit if it doesn't clear. Once you go to her bank and cash the check,. you are in the clear....

Yeah this is the best idea. If you deposit it at your bank, then it *seems* like they could take the money back if it was disputed. If you just cash it at her bank, and then deposit the cash you should be set.

Be aware that if you don't have an account at her bank, they will probably charge a small service charge, but it may be worth the extra peace of mind knowing that you won't get slammed with insufficient funds.

Prob too late now, but maybe you should tried to verify funds before you deposited it. Just to be sure it doesn't bounce and cost you more money.

I deposit checks with my first name spelled wrong and my husband's last name all the time (my last name is different and it s my account), so I doubt you'll have any trouble

I don't like depositing at another bank other than mine, especially at wells fargo. They make you do a thumb print on the check like you're getting booked into the county or something.

Duh, they are protecting themselves from fraudelent activities. Every bank now asks(or should) for a fingerprint. Most other check cashing services ask for a finger print now as well.
