Would you support merging the social forums together again?

Seeing as traffic is much lower than it used to be, it'd be nice to merge them all again to have more traffic on one page, especially as I never visit the other forums.

No. If you never visit the other forums, it's obviously not content you're after. The only thing this would change, for you, is how fast threads drop off the first page. I don't want to see Garage or Health&Fitness or P&N crap at all, so I stay out of there. I'm perfectly happy with OT the way it is and the L&R shit all collected in one place so I can laugh at the sheer stupidity of some people. It's easier to follow topics that don't race off the first page.

Yes. I'm also for renaming "Politics and News" to "Politics and Economics"

L&R should stay where it is.

Everything else should be assimliated.

And by everything else I mean everything but P&N as we all know how crazy it is over there.

I don't think putting them back together is going to create more traffic.

If anything the end result will be less threads related to the garage and H&F because those topics are so specialized that they would get lost in OT.

P&N should be changed to 'Politics and Name calling' since that is mostly what takes place there.

We've gone over this a zillion times. Yes, a large majority of ATOTers agree withh merging the forums. No, the "powers that be" don't care what we think, the traffic stats for ATOT show that they are determined to kill this forum with stupid decisions.

The "decisions" that are driving AT forums into the ground don't have anything to do with the way forums are catagorized. :Q

You sure it hasn't been less, like 3 or 4 years maybe? Because I remember seeing you post that, and I haven't been here 5 years.

Bzzt. Wrong. You forgot the main change. The main change is that many, many more people will be looking at the thread title and you'll have a wider variety of answers. Hopefully, useful answers, but with social topics you never know.

We can keep subdividing until no one ever looks at a particular thread. Sure, it is in the correct sub-forum, but since they are busy browsing the billion other sub-forums, they never look at yours. Then Anandtech dies just like the other forums that over divided.

Divided we fall.

So, a stagnant forum with 1/4 of our traffic answers what?

The real answer is 1 forum with tags that individual users can turn on/off. You can thus ignore the garage threads if you wish or look only at L&R threads, or whatever but the rest of us can see all that we want simultaneously. But no one in charge would actually do that.

Tags would work best, and could be implemented easily in vB.

But like you said, it's not likely to happen anytime soon.

Until people get just as lazy about setting thread tags as they do posting in the correct forum, sure. ;)

L&R and P&N do better separately

I could see H&F and Garage merging in successfully, but really it should be up to the mods and people that post in them frequently that will know best
