Would you still tip if you knew your waiter made $10 an hour?

Here people tip usually 20% even though the average wait staff starts at around $10/hr. If you knew your waiter made $10 an hour would you still tip?

Not really, restaurants here cost the same as the do in the rest of the nation, while waiters on average start out making $10 an hour.

YAtipT

I tip for good service and because I want to. How much they make per hour has no effect on that.

Yes, but less than What I would normally tip, depending upon the quality of service.

Nope. I don't tip anyway. Waiters in Oregon and Washington make at least $8.50/hr (min wage) and get tips. All they do is take your order.

A waiter at a high end restaurant can make good coin. Of course I would tip no matter how much they make.

I would tip them more. If they only earn $3/hr, then tipping $5 is way too much. But if they earn $10/hr, then then $5 doesn't mean that much to them so you have to tip more to have the same effect.

At a nice high end restaurant waiters can make a lot more than $10 an hour before any tips.

I don't tip because I feel guilty and need to make up for a missing wage. They make at least minimum wage here. I do tip if the service is good though. I'm a creature of habit and eat at the same places so tipping often gets me seated faster, free drinks, appetizers, and other perks. Also not leaving a tip seems to be the clearest message you had a problem.

HELL NO. I make $10/hr now and no one tips me for the work I'm supposed to do for them no matter how above and beyond my service is to them.

Only reason to tip is if you go to the same restaurant a lot.

I never go to the same places. :p
