Would you spend $10,000 to save your dogs life? Would you for a friend?

So if your dog (or family pet) required a $10,000 operation to save its life would you spend the money (assuming that $10,000 isn't that easy to come by for you).

Would you do the same for a human friend?

edit: to specify "human" friend.

10,000 to save a dog's life is a lot different than 10,000 to save a friends life. As has already been said, the lifespan of a dog is short compared to people and you also know that a friend can also pay you back. So a fair comparison is if you would pay 10,000 to save a dogs life to 1,000,000 to save a friends life.

also it would matter how old the dog is. if the dog was like 15 years old and needed a $10K surgery, thats a different story than if the dog was like 3 years old and needed it.

or the injury. if the dog is all screwed up and wont live a good life, then youre just wasting your money and being selfish.

What's stopping the friend from paying it?

Also, for the dog, it depends if he or she will have a good quality of life afterwards. I'm not a fan of prolonged suffering.

It ultimately depends on how much $10k means to you, does it not? Someone making $30k/yr is going to have a harder time justifying $10k than someone making $150k.

So, would you consider it more rational to spend $10k to save an infant son's life than perhaps your elderly grandfather given that the grandfather's lifespan is limited compared to the infant son?

How would that be irrational?

Not on my dog... but yes, for a friend...

Gotta put the limit somewhere, no matter how much you love your pet.

I think the question should be, how rich would I have to be to spend $10,000 to save my dog?

No and no. My friends wouldn't ask for money to save them. They all have enough money/insurance to cover any medical problems anyway.

There is no fvcking way I'd spend $10k on my dog. What a waste of money.

I as well. Even if I didn't, I'd shell out that much to save my cat. When I adopted them, I took a responsibility for the health and well-being. I also care for them, and don't want them to die while I can prevent it.
