Would you return this?

I have some backlight bleed on the bottom of my new Acer 27 inch screen. It goes from left to right about 1/4 in width. Is this about the norm or would you have it replaced? It would cost me $20 to have it shipped back to Newegg and have them ship me a new one...

Return it. I had less than that with my 24" Dell and replaced it three times until got one that didn't have backlight bleed. There's no reason for backlight bleed with today's monitors.

My 26" KDS LCDs do have some backlight bleed, but that looks a bit excessive. I think I would send it back if it bothers you.

that is alot of backlight bleed.... too much Id think but honestly I dont know if its faulty or not, so they might not want to take it back, unless your within return periode.

*edit just saw this:

return it, see if you cant get a version that doesnt have as much.

*edit

after haveing look more at picture, Im tempted to say same as the first poster:

Even if it is normal for that model, I would still return it.

If you talk to newegg they can waive the fee sometimes. They did it for me once because i make most of my purchases through them.

I didn't bother returning one of my Dell monitors because it had a single stuck grey pixel. It would always stay grey. Barely noticeable at the worst. I've had a couple monitors with some minor backlight bleeding. Still didn't return them. Return that thing. If that's normal for that model of monitor, get a different one.

This is one of the reasons why I always look to Dell for monitors first and other companies second. Dell has a very nice return policy on monitors and generally speaking, they make great monitors.

this is why I buy monitors locally or only from a company who takes returns without charging me. I am not going to look at a monitor for years with horrible back light bleeding or dead pixels and I will be damned if I should have to pay to return a crappy product.

+1. If I buy a monitor the first thing I look at is the return policy.

Agreed.

while i'm sure everyone is ready to jump on the outrage wagon, it may not be as clear cut.

i've taken enough photos of lcd's to suspect that the backlight isn't that bad.

since the op didnt list a model number, my cursory search has found that the few newegg reviews on the b273h indicate that the lower bezel backlight bleed is common enough. if this was a led backlit it may even be normal, as single strip bottom lighting on hyper cheap TN monitors is unlikely to be very good.

may want to opt for a different brand/model as others have suggested, rather than play return shipping roulette on a same model replacement only to find it has the same issue.

Believe me I've learned my lesson. I would love to buy locally. The problem is they never have the models I want to see and try out. I actually had a perfect Dell U2311 which I sold to someone. I sent him an email asking him if I could refund his money because I would like to keep the Dell now.I should have been happy with what I had, but of course I never am :-(

Id return it. 5 years ago I bought an el-cheapo Gateway 19" from Circuit City. It is 1440x900 res. And even after all these years, it has no where near that amount of bleed.

Id be pissed and return it.

Got it boxed up and ready to go back to Newegg. I pulled the trigger on a Dell U2410 with a coupon. It was $450...

I assume you turned up the brightness to 100%? But yeah regardless that bottom line isn't acceptable.

I had to turn it down to almost zero brightness to make it go away. And then the monitor would make a loud buzzing noise...

That bleed is bad. I have a px2710mw and it does have a little bleeding on bottom, but nowhere near that. I hate buying monitors online. Makes me so nervous! But like you said, they either don't have what I want or the price is way more local.
