a risk of the manufacturing process, sure. but people buying into that philosophy is the problem. if people didnt tolerate the dead pixels, companies would be sure to find a process that doesnt result in so many, charge more, or go out of business. there are flaws in all manufacturing processes, but do mem/vidcard/mobo/proc/etc. manufacturers have the same policies?

do brick and mortar stores have the same policy? none that i know of. you walk in and exchange it. but when buying online, people dont want to deal with the hassle of shipping it back, etc, when rmaing, so online stores take advantage of that. lcds are the one thing i wont buy online, but pay the extra to buy from b&m just for that reason.

you sound like a salesman of a piss poor product. Samsung RMA'ed my monitor for the same problem(I say problem cause thats what it is) , Even did an express rma for free.

I agree. The only thing I hate about new egg is that 8 dead pixel policy. These online vendors should damn well arrange a deal with the manufacturer to get full refunds for defective products and then post the 8 dead pixel policy only for the manufacturers that refuse to take back monitors with dead pixels. Viewsonic and the rest would soon reprioritize with better quality control when mass groups of people are suddenly buying only samsung LCDs because they will guarentee no dead pixels.

I'd rather pay $20 more for an LCD monitor from a company that has good quality control and will take back defective monitors then pay less for a gamble. Dead pixels, especially dead center, are highly annoying.

Would you order a new car from a dealership that has an 8 dent policy?

Getting dead pixels is almost like buying a 6800GT only to find you only have 12 pixel pipes because 4 were broken. Except not that extreme.

But a video card manufacturer would simply lock those broken pipes and sell the card as a lesser speed grade derivative.

LCD manufacturers should check their screens. If there are dead pixels, they can sell the dead pixel screens as a lesser "model" at a discount price, provided the ammount of dead pixels aren't that bad.

It's just plain total BS. What other product can you pay upwards of 2K for and not be guarenteed your purchase is something your satisfied with? Imagine paying $1500 for the king of 21 inch screens with the best possible vid quality because your such a picture purist only to get something with 7 bright green dead pixels clustered right in the center of your screen. Now imagine you can't return this expensive lite bright piece of trash because you agreed to take the risk.

If I wanted to gamble, I'd go to Vegas. Right now, the LCD monitor policy is the only reason I would ever walk into a Best Buy or Comp USA for a non software computer product. Even the jerks at Best Buy take back or exchange products unconditionally within 30 days without a restocking fee.

Oh well, it's just another annoyance of life, but in the end, I only buy a monitor once every 10 years or so. I can deal with it, but it does take newegg down a notch for me as being the best company in the world Ill always try to shop with to one of a few I'll shop around with for the best price. Their loss, I guess...
