Would you return an LCD for 1 dead pixel? One that was so in the corner of it. Then have to pay a 15% restocking fee, and take a chance on another one.....

If it's in the corner it shouldn't be something that you even see.

Me personally, I don't think it's worth the hassel. Also, the next one get might have 3 or 4 dead pixels. when dealing with LCD's you are going to have these problems. As long as it's not dead center where it's a distraction, I would keep it.

By the way, once you use an LCD you'll never go back to CRT again.

if the dead pixel pissed me off, yes. if it was in the corner, though, i doubt it would bother me. how expensive was the LCD?

I bought a monitor that had a dead pixel so I returned it, then the next one had a stuck pixel returned it, the 3rd one was fine, still looking good 6 months later. But this was at BB so no restocking fee.

There's specifications and classifications for how many dead pixels are to be tolerated before you can RMA.

Class I - zero defects
Classes II and III specify amount of bright/dark subpixels and full pixels per million pixels. Class II is seven subpixels or three entire pixels per million, IIRC, and Class III is just plain ridiculous.

The vast majority of affordable LCDs are Class II.

So far I been lucky, but 1 pixel? Nah, the shipping would be too high. Live in Hawaii.
Suggest buying from local Costco. Dell 24" LCD can be returned up to 3 years; not too bad if you got a dead pixel.

I wouldnt buy an LCD in the first place (and yes, I've used LCD before, and hated it...) Ideally, no defective pixels should be tolerated, but with current LCD technology 1 dead pixel is actually not uncommon. You may get even mode dead pixels on the replacement, so just keep the current LCD.

I would only buy an LCD from a place that charged no restocking fee, and yes I would return it. I didn't buy a new monitor so I get a broken product. I'd try to massage it out first but if that didn't work, I'd return it.

Not true. So stop saying it.

This is why I would only buy an LCD that comes with a zero dead pixel warranty, from a retailer who wont charge me to replace it. Its got to be perfect. hence I still use CRTs...... but new compy will have an LCD.

I'll return a book with the first or last page missing, I don't see why I shouldn't return a Display that is broken either.

If you bought it at a discount exactly because it might have a missing page or two, then no you wouldn't ... and that's exactly the situation with LCD screens. Defect-free ones are more expensive, cheap models aren't specified to be defect-free.

:disgust:

When I go to buy a "cheap" LCD I don't see anywhere where it says "Comes with Dead Pixels". It's not supposed to have ANY dead pixels, whether it costs $100 or $3000. The advantages of getting a better LCD are better quality images, bigger screens, higher resolutions.......... NOT getting a screen that isn't broken.

well lcds generally have some sort of guide as to how many bad pixels are acceptable at a given screen size.

i generally dont think like 1 or maybe 2 on a really big lcd like say a 20" is too bad.

i mean its more like buying a book, with like slightly messed up type on a page.

you really SHOULDNT be able to return it for that reason as its not broken since it is in the manufacturers specs, and well when you bought the lcd you are supposed to know that you cant return it for that reason.

i honestly have no idea why some people think crts are way better than lcds.

i have had my share of crts, many very nice ones and seeing as i am in front of a compute rmaybe 10-12 hours a day on some workdays, the difference between even an analog lcd and crt on your eyes is huge. a digital lcd is basically eye pain free.

i dont even care about the colors or the viewing angles or motion blur. its the refresh rate and it will kill you if you are on a crt all day.

For MOST people when you use an LCD you'll never go back. There are some who don't like them. My brother doesn't like mine. However, I would never go back to a CRT again. There is NOTHING that compares to an LCD, as far as I'm concerned.

I stand by my statement as I think it's true for the most part.

No, it's not worth the hassle of boxing it up. I have one dead, and one stuck pixel that have emerged on my 2405 (it was either perfect at delivery, or I missed them despite looking). But honestly, if you stop thinking about them you'll never notice it. I put them in the same category as slight geometry issues on a CRT.

Well it must have fixed itself, because its not their anymore :) Does that happen, a pixel fixing itself? Anyway I've got no dead or stuck pixels now...

If it's stuck you can try pushing on it to unstick it, or in your case it just fixed itself. It can happen.

At least, nothing that can compare to the extremely limited one resolution or low contrast.
