On my way home I was in a line of cars today all turning left and yielding to oncoming traffic. I was 3rd in line and there was a green minivan in front of me. Instead of waiting for the person 1st in line to complete his turn, the minivan darted out diagonally and took the turn before him, narrowly missing an oncoming car. The oncoming car probably had to hit it's brakes to avoid an accident.
I ride a bike often so I'm much more relaxed about getting places on time in general, and this area is suburban enough that traffic doesn't usually bother me or stress me out. I had to come in earlier than usual today so I was on the highway during peak commuting time. I couldn't believe that people in the right lane would actually speed up to fill gaps and not allow others to merge in. And then they would look away as if they didn't do anything.
I was just pissed about that from this morning and then this selfish douchebag's maneuver was the cherry on top. I felt inspired to do something, so I called the police department to report it. They started taking some information about it and then told me that he would have to send an officer over to me to take a witness report in order to make the complaint. I thought about it and declined because I didn't want to wait for someone to come. Do you think this was serious enough to report, or would I be wasting the police's time?
