Would you rather have a T60 or a D610?

Lenovo T60 (Intel Core Solo 1.67Ghz)
Dell D610 (Intel PentiumM 1.83GHz)

Otherwise configured the same and are within $100 of each other. Opinions? Is Lenovo still as good as IBM?

Thanks!

I have a D610 and I love it. No complaints at all. We actually have thousands of them at work.

So if you have thousands then I can presume that the build quality is good?

I'd go with the T60, cause I love my T42 :)

I hear that IBM/Lenovo has killer support and I am condering that. :)

I would have to get a Dell because the keyboard layout is probably better.

And the IBM/Lenovo's never have a Windows key.

Usually I can find a Dell with the proper layout of the arrow and home/end/pageup/pagedown/delete/insert keys like my 600m.

I never would have pointed this out but it is so true. My work laptop is a Thinkpad (forget the model) and the keyboard configuration is awful. I really miss the windows key.

Actually I think the new models have a Windows key!

The support is pretty good.
btw, the one that I have is from work too, so we have thousands also. Since 66% of our employees have latops, I would assume that's 9,000 IBM laptops worldwide. :)

D610 offers more bang for your buck but T60 probably has better build quality and tech support.

My Dell 700m is almost 1 year old and I've had ZERO problems with it. Awesome price and it just works.

Go with the T60. Won't fall apart on you and it has a three year warranty. Also, the new Thinkpads do have a Windows key.

We used to have C610s and I'd replace motherboards and tons of keyboards all the time. keyboards especially. With the D610s, I haven't replaced any hardware in a long time. Still hard drives go back every so often and a rogue bad keyboard with a bad point stick but all in all, I basically don't have to do hardware any more.

I've used my 600m every day for about a year and a half (I bought it when they had one of the $750-off coupons). It hasn't had any major failures, but it feels insubstantial and fragile, and runs very hot. I don't think I'd buy another Dell (though the D610 should be a bit better built than my 600m).

We have a couple dozen D600/D610s. I think two hard drive failures and a cracked screen are all that we have experienced since getting them, coming up on 2.5 years.

If you have a commercial sales rep you can get them cheaper, btw. I think the last D610 I priced out was about $1200 for one with 14." screen, 1.73ghz, 1GB RAM, 2 batteries/chargers, and the 3 year business mobility warranty.

I have a 600m and my fiancee has a D610. There is no comparison in build quality or feel between the two of them. If I touch the back of the screen on the 600m, the colors distort but the D610 doesn't do a thing. That's basically how I feel on the whole Inspiron/Latitude argument. There is absolutely no reason to get an Inspiron if you're at all rough on a laptop. I've had very little experience with IBM laptops and none with Lenovo so I can't really give you a comparison. I can also tell you that comparing Dell's business support to their home support would be an insult to their business support. Wait times are short and you talk to native English speakers with business support.
