I work at the U of M's Department of Public Safety and there are two main jobs for students: we can work the vehicle patrols, where we do jump starts, vehicle unlocks, mail runs, food runs for the dispatchers, and general 'preventive' patrol. The other job is an office worker, who mans the front desk at our main location and at our three substations. I do vehicle patrols.
The vehicle patrol is awesome because we're sometimes really busy and sometimes dead - so there's really never a day that's just like yesterday. Plus, we get to drive a cool-looking DPS vehicle and use a police radio. The office job is cool because it's always easy. Most of the time the workers just do their homework or surf the Internet (no one EVER comes into the substations so that's really the ideal office job).
Which one would you rather have? Vehicle patrol is awesome, but the potential to be insanely crazy is there, but the office job is always dead. If I were an office worker, my post count would go way up (big plus), and I'd be able to do my homework on the job. So what do you think?
