desktop for any long term use, due to the ease of upgrading and the sheer amount of power you can pack inside a tower.

I have a laptop and I basically only use it when I want to surf the net in bed or on a slow day at work when I want to watch a dvd.

Tablet. I'm not a gamer, so I don't need a powerful video card. I don't copyright infringe, so I don't need lots of storage. Might as well optimize for portability and convenient reading form.

got a asus f3jp with a c2d at 2.21 and x1700. does what i need it to do thats about it, relativly portable with good battery time. but if i could have my desktop here, i would. that thing was a beast and i loved using it. i love being able to upgrade every single part on a desktop, being able to build a desktop thats far more powerful than a laptop for less. its just the ability to do so for less and get more. i hate having the weaker version of something when you can have the more powerful version of something. its just annoying.

Laptop for sure, but I still need my desktop for high-end graphics and storage. However, I do 75% of my computing-tasks on a laptop now.

Two equivalent ones? What does that mean? Everything being equal I'd choose a laptop but then it's never equal. I'll stick with me 30" LCD desktop thank you very much!

For home use I would choose a desktop. I built my desktop, it was relatively inexpensive to put together and offers a level of ease of use, performance, capabilities, and ease of upgrading that you could never find in a laptop.

I have a laptop and a desktop. When I am at home the laptop stays in it's bag by the door.

Both.

I prefer a good desktop and some cheap laptop. My laptop doesn't get much more use than being a remote desktop client machine... or doing some light coding or whatever :p.

I voted for laptop but I meant DTR laptop. If you have to choose only one, then DTR is the way to go. Otherwise its a no brainer..

My Macbook is perfect for me. I don't game, I don't edit video or anything like that.
I email, surf the web, sync my iPod/iPhone and VPN/Remote desktop to my servers at the office and that's about it.

My Athlon64 desktop I keep around mainly only because it's sharing a printer.

I have both, but if I had to ditch one, the laptop would go first. The desktop is.... more like a home entertainment system than just a single machine.

If money was no option and the two were spec'd equivalently then I'd take a laptop. I only use my laptop at home 99% of the time. My desktop is just for burning DVDs and things like that.

desktop. i guess because i am in the computer room / office 90% of the time i am at home anyway.

the only time the laptop ever gets used at our house is when i am at home for Sunday football games. then i leave it on the coffee table for scores & stats updates.

Why is this even under debate?

Gaming PC for home use. Laptop for mobility/travel/presentations.

This kind of seems like a no-brainer and it's boggling my mind to understand why it's even under any serious debate.

I use laptops way more than desktops on average.

But I can't do without my server and countless storage space.

More than likely a Desktop, even if its a SFF one with mATX board and a HD 2600XT or 8600GT,it'll STILL give me better bang for buck than laptops, plus i'm too used to having the monitor,KB&M and PC itsslef seperate :p
