The beater w/ nice clothes. A lot of the analysts at my firm and the new college grads at my old companies went out and immediately leased cars way out of their purchase range, so it's not hard to roll around in a nice car. However, having a sense of style and seeing people in nice clothes is increasingly rare these days.

I don't judge a whole lot on either factor, because from an early age, some of the most successful people I've known haven't cared much about either, and a lot of the C-level folks I've worked for really didn't dress that well or drive nice cars. To me, it might give you an insight on who the person is, but more and more, I'm noticing that it's more likely to be a pretender than not. However, if I had to make a call on a quick glance, better dress beats a nice car any day.

Hell, I'm more likely to go and buy a nicer suit than I am to replace my 200k mile Supra.

As long as the beater ran fine, I would want the suit. People can't see your car when you are in a business meeting.

Latter.

This.

The clothing issue is less expensive and easily remedied.

A full wardrobe of quality suits can easily cost as much as a car.

Yeah but if I can afford an expensive car, I more than likely can afford expensive suits.

That's a crap-ton of suits, even at like $1K each...

A wharehouse full of socks can be worth more than a car, but what the fuck does that have to do with the post?
