I also use my PC for photo/video stuff. So gaming upgrades (well, at least the CPU and RAM) help me be more productive as well.
At least that's how I rationalize it.

Yea I would stick to consoles if I was that ignorant too.

LOL, yea I'm still running the stop-gap geforce 8600GT that I swore would be a temporary measure when I needed to replace my motherboard/cpu/ram back in '07. It's done alright and hasn't demanded to be replaced. Then again, I don't demand that it run at insane resolutions in return.

You shouldn't need to upgrade every single time a new game comes out.. typically my systems last about as long as a console generation.

Over the past two months, I bought a new CPU, Vid Card, Motherboard, RAM, and power supply....yet I still have a PS2 sitting on the shelf and it plays DVDs 99% of the time its used. It's good for Guitar Hero and not much else :p I'll buy a nicer console when I have a PC I'm happy with and a little extra cash to throw around. For now, I'll stick to upgrading the PC and get graphics that stomp the latest consoles :p

P.S. Don't get a price vs. performance war started. I know I'm pissing money away by upgrading the PC vs getting a console for $300. I could have bought all three of the newest consoles for the cost of my latest upgrades, and then some.
