Which one would you rather have?

Red Green Color Blind means you can't see the color red and green.

Uncorrectable 20/300 vision means you can't see far and nothing can fix it. Infact you are legally blind and are considured disabled.

That's like asking "would your rather have no arms and legs, or be lactose intolerant?"

Color blind. I have worse than 20/300 correctable vision and I'd shoot myself if it couldn't be fixed. At least this way I just can't drive... or play on green versus red teams.

colorblind w/ better than 20/20 vision. Shit, even seeing a world in B&W is better than a world in blur.

I actually know someone (uncle in law) who has cone-rod dystrophy, who not only has monotone vision, but is also legally blind. I wanted to ask him what was worst for him, losing the ability to see color, or losing the ability to see more than 3 feet infront of him. Bt felt it would be a very insensitive question.

I think I'd still rather be colorblind.

Sure you can wear them, but they won't do anything...

I saw that but I thought he meant lasik or something more surgical as opposed to conventional eye glasses. It seemed like too easy a choice if it's colorblindness vs completely blind.

No contest - colorblind.

Worked with a colorblind tech who did just fine in the real world. Most people hadn't a clue.

No I actually did mean nothing could fix it. Not even glasses. There are many disease which make it so you can see more than a few feet from you, even with any type of corrective lenses.

I bolded the incorrect part. I am red/green colorblind and can see red and green...just not together and not very well. But when they're isolated, I can see them without any problems (stoplights).

Most people have no real concept or accurate information regarding colorblindness.

Yup, same here, and oddly enough my direct manager has the same red/green color deficiency I do. However, I drive just fine and even make ethernet cables and crossover cables without issue.

Trying to explain what being colorblind is like to those that aren't is very difficult, we've never seen properly so we have no frame of reference to give you on how it is "different" than the way you see.

I'm 20/400 in one eye (thankfully correctable with glasses) and I have to say it'd suck if it was uncorrectable. That limits me to about two feet. I'm also sufficiently red/green colorblind that I can't pass the test with the color plates, but a more detailed test shows I can differentiate them well enough to do electronics work... found that out when I joined the military.
Yes, given a choice, plainly I'd prefer to be able to see more than two feet in front of me.
