Would you rather be blind, deaf, and mute or paralyzed from the neck down?

So curious how people answer this, your options are you suddenly become blind, deaf, and mute or you become paralyzed from the neck down.

When I say blind I mean nothing but black, and deaf is no sound at all.

I'd go with paralyzed from the neck down.

That way, I can still watch movies... listen to audiobooks... watch TV, see and speak with people, understand the changes in the world coming in the decades ahead of us... etc.

In either scenario, there'd be a prospect of eventually being cured by medical advances... but I tend to think the odds are better for the paralysis. In the other situation, it would seem there'd need to be a lot more wrong with you to leave you deaf blind AND dumb.

Plus, I'm lazy and being paralyzed would play right into that. Having to learn brail, especially without the benefit of hearing... would be a huge pain in the ass.

Would you be willing to be paralyzed from the neck down for a year, if complete recovery was assured, to save the whales?

If it was just one of those id pick mute in a heart beat. But since its all 3 vs. paralized. Id take paralized from neck down.

Mute, its not like anyone actually cares what I say to begin with. Hell, half the time I don't even want to hear what I think. Actually, it'd be kind of great because then everyone at work would only communicate with me through email and I could snooze through meetings since its not like I'd be able to give any input. I could also get one of those stephen hawking robot voice generators and everyone could laugh when I used it since I wouldn't also be in a wheelchair making you sad at the same time.

Edit: I misread the title. Neither of these would be fun at all. If we're holding out hope for cures I guess blind and deaf because if I got one of those back it'd be obviously the better choice but man would that suck. But god damn I'd be useless either way. Blind and deaf, I could still fuck and exercise, feed myself and read braille. But it'd still be balls.

makes sense that the ATOT crowd would pick paralysis. they don't know how to use anything below the neck anyway.

Mute. There are other easy ways to communicate, and it doesn't take away any senses.

This actually made me think a bit.

Mute.

-It sucks donkey ass not to see. I would dearly miss looking at my fiancee, friends, family, and the wonders of the world. Being blind is the worst without a doubt.

-I would cry not hearing the voice of my future kids, my dear fiancee, joys of music, watching TV/movies, the waves crashing, birds chirping, all the wonderful sounds the world offers.

-Being paralyzed is just downright stupid. You can't travel, have sex, have fun, just stuck to the bed until you die. I'm not the most active guy, fiancee and I LOVE doing activities.

-I'm a very vocal guy, love long talks with friends over drinks, love public speaking etc, but lot of that can be mitigated by electronic communication and writing. And there's ZERO hindrance when watching a movie, listening to music, hearing my friends and family, going rock climbing, swimming, etc.

Being mute, easily.

I'm surprised so many people support team paralyzed though. Obviously both are terrible choices. But the more I think about it, the more being Helen Keller I could enjoy a lot of things still. You can still read with braille and type, and with a base of language and memory of sights and sounds you should be able to learn to communicate pretty quickly and adapt. You'd learn to recognize loved ones through touch and maybe even smell. You could still play with your kids, have sex with your wife, go for walks, read books and use a toilet, bath and feed yourself. With practice you might even learn how to cook or something more advanced. Hell, you could become a writer if you wanted and no one would give you any shit about it because there isn't anything else you could do. And it seems to me the technology to restore one of your destroyed senses (corneal transplants, some type of hearing aid or mechanical ear) is a lot closer than restoring your spinal cord which I've only heard of some small experimental successes with mice.

I don't think you guys are thinking this through. With the paralyzed thing all you can do is sit on your fucking ass getting bed sores and watching movies, entirely dependent upon care givers and likely not even able to kill yourself without help. You can't pick up your kids, hug some one and you can't fuck anyone. Your body is useless and your muscles will waste away. You can't exercise at all so your health probably get worse. With either one you're a burden to your family now since you can't work or do errands and many chores around the house. But how long is your marriage going to last when you wife has to change your bedpan or at least pay a nurse to do so and you can't even get it up? She might stay with you out of loyalty but you can't reasonably expect her to be at all fulfilled. You can talk to her still but what are you going to say "While you were at work, I watched reruns of Cheers and can you change my diaper please because it smells like shit in here?"

Omg what awful choices :( I guess blind/dead/mute. I can still type, and would be able to read braille and stuff. I think the quality of life prospects are much higher than if paralyzed from the neck down, especially living a longer healthier life. Given that you didn't have the assumption of no medical assistance the advances in restoring sight is pretty encouraging.

What's the point of having mobility if you cant see where you're going, listen to your surroundings, and unable to communicate with anyone?

The choice is easy, I rather be paralyzed from neck down.

Paralyzed. Being blind is pretty much the worst thing that could happen to me. Being blind and deaf would eliminate all things I'd do to kill time.

Mute. I don't talk much anyway.

this. I guess there's 2 more things to add but I would prefer that to being bedridden. I rather be dead than paralyzed.
Where's the poll?

those saying they could read braille - how would you learn it? someone surely has to tell you "this is A" etc. if you're blind and deaf no one could communicate with you surely?

for me it depends on whether i could get a servant to change channels, download stuff for me to watch etc. if not, and i'm like an old person in a home staring at a wall then i'll take a bullet to the head thanks.

if i do get a servant - then i'll take paralysis and hope for stem cell treatments. volunteer to be a guinea pig if needs be.

If you can't figure this out, maybe you should stick with the paralyzed TV watching. :p
