Would you purchase a handgun from a dealer if it subjected you to random physical and mental evalutaions?

Interesting...

The bill.

I am trying to research and read a little more into the bill. Not sure what level of physical fitness you need to hown a handgun. And what do you suppose will be on the list of symptoms that would preclude you from owning a handgun and will a government doctor be doing the mental evaluations?

This this is quietly getting slipped through congress and I have no doubt if it hit Obama's desk it would be law before the ink was dried.

NO. HELL NO. This is also unconstitutional.

I also like that this bill has no future and isn't going to go to a vote.

Mental evaluation is a slippery slope, particularly in this day and age when conservatives are put on government lists as likely terror suspects.

I will submit to the same examinations to own a firearm that Obama needs to pass in order to become President.

National Campaign? FBI and others likely did some digging.

You need a majority to vote for you to own a firearm...

That seems kinda harsh, all i needed was a licence and you call the UK strict. ;)

That's not what I stated. If the FBI wants to look into my past, so be it. With this bill I would have to pass a standard or be prohibited from owning a firearm. Since the President has access to some very large weapons indeed, I think it's a fair request. Let's have Presidential candidate pass a test of their capabilities before being allowed to run.

That already exists.

No it does not. He does not have to understand anything at all. I cite GWB as evidence.

That's what the campaign is about. Bush should have set off everyone's alarm from the start. Dude was obviously fucked up and was kept somewhat in the back, Others were used heavily to promote him publicly, much more so than other Candidates use.

This bill died before it even got into committee, and it will never go to a vote, much less be signed into law.

Bills like these exist for the sole purpose of strengthening an individual congressman's re-election campaign. Bobby Rush can go back to his constituents and tell them he tried for poor Blair Holt, now remember who to vote for. But without a single co-sponsor, that's all it was/is ever going to do.

But, to answer the OP's original question: Hell no.

Yup. This does smack of unconstitutionality. There is no physical reason which prevents someone from owning a firearm. Unless a person has been declared incompetent by a court of law, they should be able to purchase one.

One could make the point that lack of good physical condition is the very reason why one should own firearms. Think granny shooting some guys trying to rob her or her house or worse.

I agree, but it doesn't matter much anyway. This is a dead duck and nothing will come of it.

It's way too early for duck season to be open here in KY.
