I still have to say no..

1) I lose interest too quick to play any game for months and months on end

2) Dont have the cash for internet every month + cost of a game every month , 10 or whatever it is.

3) Single player or free online (BF:1942) suits me just fine.

#2 and #3. If I pay up front for the game, I'm not paying again to play it. I just don't have the money.

Agreed.
I don't want to pay $50 for a game then shell out another $10 or whatever it is just to play it.

I'd pay for one, yes. But likely only over the summer, when I'm home from school with nothing to do when I'm not at work.

I subscribed to Xbox Live and feel what it was a mistake. The reason is because the games on Xbox are mostly repetitive and eventually the replay value goes away. And it is hard to find players on many of the Live games. However, for a MMORPG such as EQ or DAoC, I can see why people pay fees for those. I don't personally do it because I dislike subscription services for the reason it erodes wealth and most people have too much debt. But, those games are like living, breathing worlds. You can do a hell of a lot more in DAoC or AC2 or EQ than you can in MechAssault, for example. You establish a guild (club), customize your character, have a very large and changing world, and make lasting friendships with the people online.

There is a very social aspect to MMORPG's, whereas you rarely make any in shorter games like MechAssault, WCIII, or other short, episodic online games. I guess I figured that is why WCIII does not charge for online play and MMORPG's do, because the lasting friends you make and characters you become in them. Further, for the time you spend playing these games, it is cheaper than going to the movies, going to sporting events or concerts, or taking a pottery class. So for many people, obviously seeing the amount of people playing them, MMORPG's have lasting value.

Not unless it was hella good. It would have to be good enough to hold my interest for years, which is not easy to do.

I don't even like paying for games. I think they should be free. We should gather up all the game developers/programmers, lock them in a huge warehouse, feed them Pepsi and crank under the door and if they don't produce they get a free sex change.......whether they want it or not.:D

If I was into MMORPGs I could see how $10 a month wouldn't be too bad, especially considering the amount of time you can play the game for.

However my attention span is way too short for that kind of game so therefore I vote no.

Actually, the $10 or so a month goes towards servers, bandwidth and development(game updates). Since all character data is kept server side(to prevent obvious cheating) and you are playing on dedicated servers,it's understandable that they want some change out the deal.I played UO for 4 years until I got flat-out bored with it.I spent roughly $500 on that game, but I don't regret it.During it's prime,I don't think I've ever had so much fun in a game.

If I had any beef with the way MMORPGs operate,it is the initial cost of the software. There are several games I'd like to try out but I'm not paying $50 just to find out I don't like it.Unlike other new games MMORPGs have no resale value unless you have a beefy account to sell with it(which will never be the case after having the game for like 1 month). The software is useless without an account.I think the price should be $10 on the shelf or downloaded for free.

Overall these games are not for everyone. They take alot of time to develop a good character/account and some people just can't justify paying monthly for a game.
