I live in a house with 4 other people and 3 legitimate parking spots. You have a 66% chance of having someone parked behind your car if you are in one of those spots. Usually, if your car is blocking someone you move it for them and if you're not there the blocked person will move your car with one of your spare keys.

Three weeks ago, I was blocked in and asked my roommmate to move his car. He wasn't busy doing anything productive, but refused and told me to move it myself. I was pretty pissed since he wasn't doing anything and said, "no, seriously I need you to move your car." To which he responded, "Go fvck yourself. I'm not doing it. I have to move people's cars all the time, it's not hard..." So I ended up having to move his car and accidently left one of the wheels on the lawn resulting in what is now a $35 ticket with late fees. I said I'm not paying it and he's pissed.

My argument is that I would pay it had he been gone, or sleeping, etc. But him telling me to move it for him pretty much removes me of any responsibility of my actions.

His argument is that well what if he were to move my car into the middle of the street and got a ticket. Would I be expected to pay for it?

Suggestions?

WTF kind of city gives parking tickets for wheels on grass on a DRIVEWAY? That's crap. Don't pay the ticket. And I'm a notorious cop-lover. Your city is just anal.

you should pay. you take on the responsibility of parking it in a safe, legal place when you drive it. if you didn't want to move it, you should have beaten him within an inch of his life, thrown his car keys in his face, and said "move your car NOW bitch."

yea, i thiink you should pay half, even though its the a$$hole's fault. Everything in life can't be fair at the moment, but in the end it'll all come out even. There will be a time where you caused something to happen, in which you can use this example as leverage when you ask him to pay for part of a fine or whatever it is.

I am not. Don't join my clan unless you listen, or I will kick your ass from now until Doomsday.

What was the original ticket cost before late fees. I would pay the original ticket amount.. but not the late fees. It's your fault he got the ticket. What if the same thing happened to your car? wouldnt you want/make him pay it as well?

Unless the city can somehow hold it against you, don't pay it. That is the single stupidist ticket I have heard of yet on this forum. Oh, man! 110% pure money grubbing, no question there. As for it being your roomie's car, he deserved it for being such a lazy skank.

If I was gone and he moved it, yes. However, if I was here and refused to move my own car, I would like to think that I wouldn't expect it. I wouldn't know though, because I always move my car when I need to.

and what if you were indisposed of at that moment too? and he had to move it? i still think that you should atleast pay half.. its both of your faults.. his for being a lazy @ss and yours for being negligent.

It's not like you *meant* to park the car in the wrong place. He could have done the very same thing.

Pay 1/2 the original ticket. The late fees are entirely his fault. He should have moved his car, so he shares the blame with you.

what kinda idiot city gives out tickets for parking on a lawn? I know mine does and their reason is (rumored) to keep everything looking beautiful. I assume its cause they don't want patches of yellow grass, but wtf its my property~!
