Would you pay an extra $50 to avoid a bad return policy for an LCD?

Thinking about buying the Samsung 226BW monitor. I can get it for $299 AR @ newegg or $349 from Circuit City. Newegg has a rather poor monitor return policy, only allowing returns for more than 8 dead pixels and no returns for physical damage. Circuit city has a no-questions-asked return policy, but a 15% restocking fee.

Just wondering what you guys think. Are dead pixels even an issue these days? I have never had a dead pixel on any of my LCDs (2 so far).

*wonders if there is a way to mess up extra pixels. Say seven are messed up, can you mess up two more and call it a day?

I'd go newegg...it sounds scary, but it really isn't horrible. I have bought 2-3 LCDs from them with no issues.

It sounded scary the first time I plunked down $450 for my first LCD a few years back, but I would just ignore that policy...dont let it scare you off🙂

If you can't bear the thought then pay the extra $$ for the one at CC, you will be paying tax their as well I assume...so don't rule out that extra amount.

Doesn't Samsung have the zero dead pixel policy? I know with Dell, I've been able to do as many exchanges as I could in their 21 day return policy, to get a "good" one.

Not sure about killing some off...but you CAN rub some out with your fingers.

Probably, but it would be warranty fraud. If you want a zero-dead-pixel guarantee, buy from a manufacturer or store that offers one (or a "satisfaction guaranteed" policy like Dell, etc.)

What's Samsung's policy?

really doesn`t matter what Samsungs policy is....because you don`t want to be out amonitor for too long. If you deal with the dealer usually you eill get it sooner!!

This is almost two years old, so I'd call 'em if I were you just to confirm it's still in effect. If it is, it looks like you're in good shape either way you go (the Egg or CC).

Also, if I'm reading that right, CC shouldn't charge you a restocking fee since you'd be returning it under Samsung's policy. What I'd prolly do is go to CC and tell 'em you'd like to buy one but that you wanna have them open the box right there, hook the monitor up, and check it yourself before you buy it. The worst they can do is say no, so what have you got to lose?

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Samsung's customer service, but if the monitor is good outta the box, it's not like much is likely to go wrong with it and thus require you to deal with their cust. service dept. anytime soon. HP has a new line of inexpensive but nice monitors out, BTW. Their 30-inch model just got 4 1/2 stars (outta 5) in one of the computer magazines (I think it was CPU or PC Magazine -- I forget which). And Circuit City has a couple on display here in my area -- very nice looking monitors. 🙂

Thanks for the info all. With Samsung's return policy I think it should be ok. At the worst I wait 14 days and then return it to them. I have a monitor already so it's not a big deal to be out for a week or two. Not really interested in sabotaging a monior to return it.

Cool good luck! ....I just threw the idea out there without any assumptions, maybe someone out there might find it beneficial, though I am not advocating the practice...

It completely matters what Samsung's policy is. If it's more lenient than the dealer's then the dealer should honor it anyway. The OP didn't mention anything about needing a monitor immediately either.
