Would you pay an extra $1 to have real world tracking with USPS?

I generally don't use USPS when I am so concerned with the progress I need detailed tracking. USPS is who I use when I want to get it there cheap and am not all that concerned with time.

No, delivery confirmation should just be their tracking system meaning scans along the way. UPS and Fedex manage to do this.

Why would USPS do such a thing? Implementing a "real" tracking system costs millions of dollars. Right now, their competitive advantage versus UPS and Fedex is that they DON'T have fancy (expensive) tracking systems and can delivery packages fairly quickly.

What's 'real world tracking'? If it's GPS tracking the truck and giving me real time approximation of package delivery down to 15minutes, I'd pay it for certain packages.
