would you pay $35k for a new 2005 Lincoln Aviator?

my wife and i went to see it in the show room today and it's SHARP, brand new, a metallic ivory color. it's clean brand new on the show room.

they are willing to sell it for $35k, i'm hoping to negotiate another $3k off that price.

anyone think it's worth it?

the other car we are looking at is a 2006 Toyota Sienna XLE, $35k.

i know, i know, but it's going to be her car, so if she wants japanese, i can't oppose too strenuously.

altho, i'd prefer she got the lincoln.

Unless its the Lincoln Nagivator, which is FAR more expensive, I'd rather invest my money on the Toyota Sienna. The Toyota should last her a deal longer then the Aviator and cost her less for repairs in the future.

the lincoln is a pretty solid car. it's explorer parts so even tho 2005 is the last model year, not concerned about parts.

it has the 4.8 liter v8. it's a 4 wheel drive and it can tow, which the toyota can't so.

That seems like a bit much for a fancied up Explorer, but that's just my opinion. You also have the new one coming out soon, which will be a nice improvement over the old one. Do you really need all that space and the luxury badge? I mean, a Ford Escape is a great little SUV and it will save you quite a bit of cash.

Isn't the Sienna a minivan? Personally, I would never pay that much for a minivan, but thats just me.

we have 3 kids and we have family over all the time so have 7 to 8 passenger capacity is imperative.

minivan or suv with a 3rd row of seats is the only things we are looking at.

Aviator = Explorer, if you dig a little deeper. 🙂

obviously i knew that, hence my post regarding parts for the aviator. 😉

however, it has the 4.8 v8 which isn't available for the explorer and also, there are only a few lincolns made hence more likely to be a higher quality vehicle.

You would. 😛

ultimately it's my wifes decision, but i think she's leaning towards the Aviator because it has the panache and we can probably get it for less than the toyota (the lincoln guys will probably give us more of a discount than the toyota guys).

Get a Mazda MPV and take your whole family to Europe or Asia - TWICE! with the $$ that your going to spend. Your family will remember those trips long after the new car "smell" is long gone.

  1. Have you actually sat in one? Kind of pathetic, really. That's why we're looking at the rebadged Expeditions instead...

ya, i sat in it today, felt better than that POS volkswagen toureg they were trying to pass off as an SUV. damn that thing was major cramped.

the Aviator feels ok, my 3 kids seat in the middle row comfortably.

I'd go with an Explorer over the Aviator though. Do you really have a need for the larger engine? It is such a huge some of money you'd be giving up for that Aviator.

Why the XLE? Do you need AWD?

We looked at (and really liked) the Sienna a month or so ago, but were looking at the lower LE model, at around $25K. Frankly I just don't see that there was $10K difference between the LE and the XLE. The only complaints I found online were with the XLE - the run flat tires didn't last very long and were expensive, and the AWD seemed less than Toyota reliable. Great van though.

all XLE's are AWD? i didn't even notice that. we got there around 8:30 pm with all three kids so we didn't have much of a chance to look at the Sienna. i'll go back tomorrow and get a better idea of what i want in the Sienna. wife wants the leather and all the other goodies, power doors etc.
