They did this to a house next door to my g/f's old apt. Looked like a scam so didn't even bother following up.

Nope more than likely the person selling the 1.25 million dollar house will be getting at least 2 million through raffle tickets. 2.7 million if each of the 18,000 were sold.

There was an author near where I used to live that had an auction on her house. It was about a $500,000 house and tickets were $100. There was no way anyone in this town could probably afford that much house (small farming community) so I think it was a clever ploy to easily get 500,00 for the house that otherwise would not sell.

There are plenty of raffles/lotteries for legitimate good causes in my area though 🙂
 
It's actually not that bad because of the odds. It's $150 into a $1.25 mill + all the other prizes. Which is actually close to 1:18000, which is a very high number to use anyway.
