Would you order RAM off eBay?

The seller has over 30 feedbacks (100%). Furthermore, the auction says its brand new and has lifetime warranty. I checked out the manufacturer and it says that the RAM is not covered if purchased from an end user. Since the RAM is new, how would they know? Dont ask, dont tell, right? I do understand this is more of a moral issue than anything else.

It's not even a moral issue for me because I don't snoop around a company's policy page to find out if I'm covered or not...I just make them cover it.

Anyways, RAM hardly ever has defects unless it is generic.

I just bought a gig of Mushkin Redline 3200 off eBay about 2 weeks ago. Runs perfect and overclocks great. I ran memtest for 18+ hours, no errors. Oh, it was brand new, factory sealed if that makes a difference.

brand-name RAM defects all the time.

to the OP... if it was advertised as brand new and the picture shows the packaging (or a screenshot of the ram being tested with something like memtest), I would. but no way I'd ever buy used ram.

I find this very hard to believe. I order 5GB RAM every other week (Infineon) and I never have a bad stick.

I had one bad stick a long time back; generic RAM I bought locally; it was the first and last time I bought generic.

Overclocking RAM might produce defects at a higher percentage.

guess it depends on what the ram is being used for.

I work at a data center and we usually have 3-5 servers/week fail because of bad ram (granted, that's out of 4,000 servers all running 24/7....)

Corsair xms goes on sale, check Hot Deals.
I buy new parts from vendors, I buy used parts at FS/T.
I try not to cloud the line.
