I can see you've never worked with INS (BCIS, USCIS or whatever the fuck they're calling their dumbasses now).
I guess I don't have a problem with it, they're just trying to game the system to help someone out; most people do it in one way or another just to help themselves. I'm not familiar with the potential repercussions for what is presumably a grey area/illegal action though.
I'm kind of surprised at the reactions here though, the whole "if they do this then they're just going to do something like it again". Shit I've downloaded movies but I'm not about to go rob a bank; I don't buy the connection being there.

Are they good people and see this country as providing a home and service that they can't get elsewhere?
I really see no problem with it, depending on the situation and the people involved. We create many ridiculous barriers to citizenship for people that would honestly make damn fine citizens of this country if our policies weren't so damn draconian.
If only one of the party intended this to be a fake marriage, and the other has no idea what is going on--then of course that is wrong. I can't see a viable reason for someone, in any situation, to put another person through that.

I don't completely understand your setup. It sounds like the person had a business arrangement to bring family to the country. I don't have a problem with that. Business is business. Unethical? That hardly rates on the ethics scale compared to the shit people and businesses pull every day with the blessing of the government. IOW, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

This. It's a business arrangement, thinking that someone will do it again and can't be trusted, makes no sense and stupid.
I dunno, I don't like doing business with people or companies that game the system either.

Run for the hills and stay as far away as possible. Report the person to the INS/ICE - fake or fraudulent marriages are a crime and should be treated as such.

It's not uncommon for military guys & gals who don't even know each other to be married to each other.
They do it strictly for the military benefits and extra pay. You get a lot of extra perks such as extra housing allowance/your own housing, family separation pay if you're deployed, etc...

This isn't regarding me personally, but a situation I know someone is in. He's trying to help a cousin come here and his significant other has big reservations about it.
Personally, I'm surprised by some of the strong comments here, although I'm split on the issue. On one hand, if someone was doing it to help a family member out to skirt the current laws, I don't see it as big of a deal. Someone doing it to get $30k-$40k is another thing... although, even then, I'm not sure I would compare that to someone who has loose morals or liken it to someone robbing a bank.
