Personally, during my college orientation (2 days), I stayed with a Chinese guy (BTW, I'm Chinese, or Taiwanese to be more specific, myself) that had trouble with English (I think he knew what he was saying but his accent made it impossible to understand him). I had a really tough time communicating with him, and I felt like having him as a roommate would be next to impossible for me. Anyway, if you think you can deal with it, or don't plan on having conversations a lot anyway, then go for it. He'll probably get better at English during his stay anyway, and you better at understanding his English, so it may work itself out after a little while.
