Would you like to see all digital media available for download?

I for one would. I really don't see the point in having cd's, dvd's, hard copies of games. I love Netflix's WIN, and I rarely ever buy an actual CD. I think Steam is on the right track offering games via download. It would seem like this should drop the price since they are cutting out the middle man too!

So what are your thoughts?

I do see it all available on certain sites that are to remain unnamed, but if these companies want to remain profitable they better come up with a better distribution model.

i wouldn't mind it if we had faster consistent internet connections. if our high speed was as nationwide and as fast as some other places, i would be all behind it.
right now, where i am the fastest internet i can have is 1.5 down and i don't want to download some game that takes 3-4gb when i can go out and pick up the media faster.
i dl all music online (legally) already, but not too many things bigger. i think biggest i've done is ps cs4(legally)

Yeah, I've got shelves filled with DVDs, music CDs, and especially game cases, and it gets to be kind of annoying to deal with.

- In the case of games, I'm kind of split. I do buy things from Steam, but usually because 1) it's a Steam exclusive, 2) Steam has a sale on it, or 3) Steam has a cheap bundle offer. The problem with games is that nowadays, they take up several gigs, and a lot of the time, you wish you had the disc and didn't have to wait for it to finish downloading.

- In the case of music, I really wish they'd release digital downloads as loseless FLAC instead of MP3. I know I'd buy a lot more music if they did...

There's something about having a tangible item that I like. However, from a practical standpoint, I would definitely like to see digital content available for *legal* download.

Same here, I still buy CDs so I can rip to lossless FLAC instead of lossy.

My slow Qwest DSL is not going to let me download a 50 GB blu-ray in any reasonable amount of time, and I'd rather not watch over-compressed streaming instead. So for now I need netflix to send me real blu-rays not streams.

I like the idea of being able to pay to stream/download everything in existence without the current quality loss, but that's going to require a lot of rights negotiation, major bandwidth upgrades, and some kind of revenue sharing with ISPs to get them to remove the bandwidth caps.

I forgot to throw in the *legal* disclaimer. My warez days are done. I like purchasing games, movies and music. I actually own 3 legit copies of Windows!

I suppose the instant gratification I used to get downloading things illegally is what I am missing. I really want to play some new games right now, but I don't want to brave the roads and the weather. Steam doesn't have anything I really want right now, so I have been downloading mods for the games I already own.

I think its flawed when you can get that instant gratification illegally but the software/movie companies don't want to give you a way to get it legally.

I want a $99 a month service that covers everything - music, movies, games, phone, Internet. All digital. All the labels, worldwide access, multi-device support. It's there, it's just not unified - Vonage, Rhapsody/Napster, Netflix, Steam, 3G/Cable etc. I want one big monopoly out there to simply my digital media needs and consolidate my bill into one monthly bundle :D

The problem is greed...people can't settle down and get all the labels to work together, and then the labels want more and screw the artist and everyone else to get rich. Then we have the RIAA and all the other baloney going on. Why can't we all just get along?? :D
