Would you like to peer into the mind of a true conservative believer?

That rabid fox news watching, ideological grenade throwing conservative used to be me. I am now 33 instead of 23, and have done a complete 180 on most of my political views since then. I look back on myself with a sense of bewilderment and disgust, yet it does give me a pretty unique perspective into the thinking of far right conservatives today. I got banned due to that last post calling out Moonbeam as an incredibly racist liberal, because i was too dumb and dense to understand his unique, arguably brilliant style of debate. I was the embodiment of self hate. I was plenty racist. I despised poor people even though I was one paycheck away from being homeless. I was a full believer in the liberal assault on Christianity pushed by fox news even though I never actually went to church as an adult.

I'm amazed how much more at peace I am after leaving all that crap behind. I don't need to see other people fail to convince myself I've made the right choices anymore. I actually have a sense of empathy that was completely missing before, so now I don't say stupid shit like we should "turn the middle east into glass". Anyways, feel free to ask me anything, or shame me for being an idiot in my youth.

What a coincidence, 10 years ago I was a true liberal, who believed that we should send all our money to the government and they will provide back what we need to live, ensuring that the people who have the most children get the most money. I used to believe that corporations and profits were evil and should all be shut down, and that the workers should control the economy. I used to believe Spidey and Geosurface were crazy gun-toting bigots, but now I realize they were just brilliant debaters. Now I've come to my senses and realized what a fool I was to be a true liberal believer.

Wait, what was the point of this thread?

Props for the honest self-reflection. I've come across other cases like this and the ideological turnaround in them also came when they started becoming happier people in general.

When I was 15, I knew everything. When I was 20, I looked back at myself at 15 and realized I hadn't known anything... but now I knew it all. When I was 25, I really figured it out, and realized the 20 year old me was an idiot. Now I'm 30 and I realize that not only did 25 year old me not know anything, I don't know anything at 30, and I probably won't at 35, or 40 or so on. Life is a continual search for knowledge and wisdom and the more you attain, the more you realize you don't know. So congratulations on changing your views, I guess... let's see how you feel in another decade.

Let me guess, there's a big sign stating "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here."

Either that or there's a big white numeral 8 in a field of black.;)

I'm just curious if you saw yourself transforming or if after a while you realized you were different and have changed from what you were.
I'm curious if there were external or internal factors. Did you suffer from some emotional event when you were younger that you have now come to face with? Did someone die? Did you change your diet or did you move? Change jobs? Meet someone?

It's a good thing you changed though, I've read that those on the extreme right are more likely to act out, either against themselves via suicide or by hurting others (guess which group has killed more Americans since 9/11, Muslim terrorists or right wing extremists? Hint: it's not the Muslims).

Are saddened by some of the responses you have already seen in this thread and do you see your former self in some of these posters?

South park seems to think your former behavior stems from "small penis" syndrome:p

If you're not a liberal at 20, you have no heart.
If you're not a conservative at 30, you have no brain.

Guess you're not too well off there, buddy.

The real answer to American politics is two words: personal responsibility. We've lost it and our state will fail because of that.

Spoken like a true dyed-red-in-the-wool conservative. Congrats.

Life is a continual search for knowledge and wisdom and the more you attain, the more you realize you don't know

this has been known for some millennia

According to Plato's Apology, Socrates' life as the "gadfly" of Athens began when his friend Chaerephon asked the oracle at Delphi if anyone were wiser than Socrates; the Oracle responded that no-one was wiser. Socrates believed the Oracle's response was a paradox, because he believed he possessed no wisdom whatsoever. He proceeded to test the riddle by approaching men considered wise by the people of Athens—statesmen, poets, and artisans—in order to refute the Oracle's pronouncement. Questioning them, however, Socrates concluded: while each man thought he knew a great deal and was wise, in fact they knew very little and were not wise at all. Socrates realized the Oracle was correct; while so-called wise men thought themselves wise and yet were not, he himself knew he was not wise at all, which, paradoxically, made him the wiser one since he was the only person aware of his own ignorance. Socrates' paradoxical wisdom made the prominent Athenians he publicly questioned look foolish, turning them against him and leading to accusations of wrongdoing. Socrates defended his role as a gadfly until the end: at his trial, when Socrates was asked to propose his own punishment, he suggested a wage paid by the government and free dinners for the rest of his life instead, to finance the time he spent as Athens' benefactor. He was, nevertheless, found guilty of both corrupting the minds of the youth of Athens and of impiety ("not believing in the gods of the state"),http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socrates#cite_note-22 and subsequently sentenced to death by drinking a mixture containing poison hemlock.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socrates#cite_note-23

wait that phrase above contained the word millinnial it must be idiotic, retarded, weak, and lazy.

not going to argue that socrates was most wise. although it seems that plato is the one who has tainted records on socrates. so socrates and aristotle might be the wise ones. plato would have wisdom but his character might be questionable

again too much to think about and discuss

The day you start earning a living, you become a real conservative.

The people who watch Fox News are just assholes. They dont necessarily know anything or believe in anything.

i tried to make the ultimate tornado sandwich but i think it was not epic enough

a fresh bun with some mustard and melted cheese and barbeque potato chips and a pepperoni and cheese tornado

the mustard was old so i had to try to wipe off as much as possible

not that bad

Is this thread not about painting things in black and white? He was bad, now he's good. Subtext: Everyone who doesn't think like me is still bad.

You are the epitome of a fool if you believe either party has the answers. We are working on 21st century problems in a 19th century political structure, that is really just a cover for the oligarchy...a political structure that is older than Jesus.

Definitely, we need a theocracy ASAP! If there is one thing that makes sense is the follow an antiquated book of arbitrary rules!
