Are you addicted or do you abhor it? Would you let your kids watch, and if so, how much? Just History Channel or any flickering image?

I thought perhaps changing the title would draw a few more people in. I gave up TV last year, though I grew addicted to the net in that span of time, and now I really can't stand to watch it. I took a media communications class, and now the news structure is laughable. Which is good, because just about everything else on TV that tries to be laughable comes off as stupid. Heck, you guys are more entertaining than that. :) I go home on weekends and my little twin sisters are constantly sneaking off to watch TV. There is a ton for them to do where we live, but the TV sucks them in. If I were to ever have kids (God forbid ;)) there's be little to no TV in the house.

My kids will watch lots of stupid shows like blues clues so that they can try and learn a little something here and there.

Personally I watch no more than an hour a day at the moment I'd say and a movie very frequently. Other than friends I don't aim to keep up with any tv shows because I just don't care enough. The internet is far more engaging.

Yeah, there are some good kids shows. But it seems like it hits a barrier - they can't watch the reading shows for four year olds anymore, and the shows that entertain them now (at age 7) are just plain inane.

i think television, in moderation, and depending on the content is fine for children. Not to exceed 1 hour on a daily basis though, regardless of how 'educational' it may be.

Skoorb and I really don't watch much TV. We have maybe one show that we try to watch and if not, then it is not the end of the world! We enjoy renting movies though...oh yeah!

According to some studies I was looking at on Wednesday, TV has a negative correlation with children's grades, but not until it passes the threshold of 10 hours a week.

I have a daughter almost two now; she doesn't really like to watch TV but she likes a few minutes of the Discovery Kids channel. They have some pretty good shows for young kids that entertain her but never for more than just a few minutes. I swear though, when she gets to the age of where she's too old for these kids shows, like you say 7 or so, I think I'm just going to sell the TV. I flip through the channels and there is absolutely nothing but crap on TV for kids. I'm going to do my best to encourage her to read rather than watch TV. That's what I did when I was a kid and it's much more mentally stimulating.

Do I watch TV? If there's something specific I want to watch (rarely).

Would I let my kids watch TV (if I were grown and married and had some)? Yes.

What would they be allowed to watch? Good question. Most things, unless they were neglecting other necessary stuff (i.e. homework) in favor of watching TV.
