Would you let your kids read ATOT?

I'm hoping that some will respond, as I'd like to see what they say. IF you dont have kids, go ahead and be hypothetical (but make it clear that it's hypothetical). Also, let's hear ages and conditions you'd place on reading this site. I'm curious.

Completely hypothetical. No! I wouldn't let people talk around my kids the way they talk here, so there's no reason I'd let them read it. Prol 16 or a mature 15 would be the age limit I'd put on it.

If they were under 15 or 16 probably not, but other than that yes. I can think of much more harmful things my children could be doing.

Thankfully right now all the kids I could have had never got the chance to swim. So it's hypothetical at this point.

Yes. There's less idiots here than most places. She's not old enough to yet (6 in January) but will be before too terribly long. She's getting smarter at an exponential rate, it's rather frightening.

what could they possibly find out here that they wont learn or hear from other kids at school.

No, they are too young right now. But as teenagers, absolutely, they could learn alot from here. Hopefully not all bad either! 😉

Hypothetical.

Yes. Being around the minimum age Viper would allow, I can say that I was on the internet playing a game or two and learning HTML at 11 or so. In my opinion, the benefits from allowing your child to access any information they wish (for good or bad) outweighs the negatives. Alright, there may be some undesireable sites out there, but there's something to learn from even that. There's no reason to try to not allow them to make decisions about what's right or wrong, and what they're interested in, early. If anything, the internet will make them more intelligent.

Hypotheticallly Speaking: Yes, but, only after age 10-12 (depends on maturity at that age). That said, I doubt anandtech will be around in 10-12 years, at least not in the form it is today.... so... I doubt I'll ever know.

I'm 14. Free information got me where i am today: freshman at the University of California, Riverside. w00t! 🙂

hypothetically, sure, free info is teh win! 😀

My kids are very young right now (3 and 6 months) but I would not want them to read ATOT until they were in their teens. I am sure there are a lot of message boards/chat rooms available that would be more suited for kids younger than that anyway. My kids will definitely learn about what makes a computer tick as they become old enough to understand it, but until then, they'll probably stay away from sites like this on their own.

<< ...Thankfully right now all the kids I could have had never got the chance to swim. So it's hypothetical at this point.... >>

Poor guy 😉

Why not, if I had kids I would. With the overbearing moderating that goes on around here, there is nothing bad to see.

Hypothetical:
Seeing the kind of conversation that usually goes on here, I wouldn't introduce the forums to my child, but if it so happened that he/she discovered it, then so be it.
I will never restrict my child from a web site just because it's not "child-friendly".

NuclearFusion: Why would you want to be such a young guy in college? You basically missed out on the whole high school thing...no not just the easy classes, but the friends, and dealing with the jerks. I can't imagine that being that young in college...I'm a senior in HS (17) and we give out 14 year old freshman on cross country sh!t...in college I would bet you would miss out on a lot of fun parties and such...and what's the rush to grow up? i'm in no rush to be a corporate lackey 🙂
