Would you let MoFo handle your next court case?

It'd be funny..."In the matter of RIAA vs. Jumpr, jumpr is represented by the MoFo law firm."

People make fun of our nickname, but we've been known as "MoFo" in the legal community for almost 30 years. Legend has it that a group of young partners selected "MoFo" as the firm's cable address in the early 70's as a small joke on their more senior and serious colleagues. Marshall Small, who was managing partner at the time, says he approved the nickname, noting that it was similar to previous colloquialisms for the firm -- like mohofo. "The issue we had was if we knew it had this other implication," said Small, now senior counsel. "Some people at the firm claim we didn't know. But at the time I was aware there was a possible downside to it. When I approved it, I was motivated by the same spirit as King Edward III when he adopted the Order of the Garter with the French motto honni soit qui mal y pense - shame on him who evil thinks."

Through the years, the nickname has been on firm t-shirts, newsletters, coffee mugs, in the media and on the street. Law students, judges, lawyers at competing law firms, and the legal press all refer to us as "MoFo" without a second thought. As you can tell, we don't mind having a little fun, even at our own expense.

When I did the AIDS walk this year I saw some of these MoFo walking around. I wanted their t-shirt.

MoFo is a great firm. I would totally have them represent me, but I'm not a corporation and can't afford their services.
