I remember when I was younger my dad would help people when they were stuck and push the car out of the way. I've helped him once iirc.

So we saw this dude stuck in the middle of the road. There was enough of us inside the truck that I thought we could have helped him push it out of the way into the supermarket parking lot. I asked, you guys wanna help him push? Everyone's reply was "naaaaa, he's a rich porsche owner"

Oh well majority rules. (My biking friends are mostly auto dealership employees)

I'd be reluctant, those are often the type of people that will try to sue you if you get finger prints on their car while trying to help them. I figure he's rich, he'll call a tow truck. 😛 Heck I probably would just to save me the embarrassment. lol

yeah, help is help, people need it.

And on the selfish side, a guy with a Porsche is more likely to help me with a job or contacts than a poor bastard in a beat up chevy.

1) Person needs help
2) I could help
3) I help

None of that seems difficult to understand.

 I've had to push my own car out of the way several times and its much easier with help. Besides - you kids have it so easy these days with your light aluminum cars. Back in my day I had to push my Caprice Classic up a hill. (Well it was a curb but still!)

Push out of the street? Yes (if I didn't have an appointed time to be somewhere).
Stop to offer help if he was already on the berm? No, probably not. I'd figure he had a cell phone/AAA.

Though now that I think about it, I will stop to offer help. Sure the guy might be an ass. But maybe he's a good person and how often to you get 5 minutes with what might be a very wealthy person willing to share their wisdom. Don't hate the rich, learn what you can do to become one.

Typically, one does not attain wealth disproportionate to others by sharing. :colbert:

Actually most Porsche owners I know are decent people, from my experience BMW owners are the worst because those cars are more affordable and thus a lot more wannabes can own them so they try to play themselves up as fancier than they are, which seems to mean being a lot douchier for some reason.

Sure.

My MR2 died a couple of months ago (ignition coil failure) and someone stopped to help me push it into a parking lot. I appreciated it and would do / have done the same for others.

Sounds like you associate yourself with shitty people.

The dude is still in a bind, regardless of what he is driving.

I'd help based on the simple fact that nothing irritates me more than people breaking down in busy areas and just sitting in their car instead of pushing it off of the road. This seems especially prominent with women drivers, but in general obstructing the flow of traffic just because you're too lazy and/or embarrassed to get out and push is ridiculously rude to fellow drivers.

I am an MP and one day I pulled up on an officer (a Major I believe) who's car was blocking traffic. I pulled up behind his BMW and got out to assist.

He thanked me and asked if I could block traffic for him and give him a chance to run home (literally, he was only a few blocks away) so I agreed. He returned with a Mercedes and jump started his BMW with it. I just stood there and laughed.

Apparently he was a bachelor and liked fine European cars. He bought both used he said. Anyway, funny story just a little bit related.

PS - I'm white, he was black, I didn't choke him or shoot him. 😀
