Would you have sympathy for this person.

This person has a record, and multiple violent felony convictions. This ends up being their 3rd strike and they are sentenced to life inprison. Do you feel justice has been served or was the punishment too harsh.

Would alcohol addiction treatment and counseling be more appropriate punishments than life imprisons?

A family or four? Three families is okay, let him walk, but I draw the line at four. That's fucked up.

Is vehicular manslaughter a violent felony? Does it count toward three strikes laws?

No, I don't have sympathy for someone who gets life in prison for killing 4 people.

I don't agree with 3-strike programs, but I'd have no problem sentencing him to life in prison.

Depends on the state, in california it can be either. In Cali you have to prove gross negligence for it to count as a strike.

Am I the only one who thinks he should get life in prison even if this was his FIRST offense?

NO.

Death Penalty would be more appropriate.

I dont think he would get life in any state if it was his first offence, usually no more than 10 years, and with good behavior it can be reduced to less than 4 years.

I know... hence the word "should". It might seem harsh, but maybe it might make people a bit less cavalier about drinking and driving, knowing that if they kill someone as a result their life is over as well.

No. Even if he is an alcoholic, he could have taken a cab home and not KILL 4 people. Let him rot in jail for the rest of his life.

ummm I vote for the death penalty....mainly because this idiot is too stupid to kill himself so someone has to do it for him. He is nothing more than a blight on society.

Punishment fits the crime, he'll have live with what he did behind bars.

Is there something extraordinary that we should be looking at here to feel sympathy? I don't get it..

In polls many people would find his punishment too harsh and deserving of little to no jail time. Just seeing what ATOT would think. Though I speculate if this was an anonymous poll you would find infact almost half think he doesn't deserve jail time.

Those people are called retards. Manslaughter alone usually gets around 10 years, and this one is apparently a third strike.

edit: Is this supposed to be a trick question? The OP says "kills a family of 4" but doesn't give details. For all we know, the family of 4 had a retarded dad driving like a jackass, it was the dad's fault, and the other guy being drunk is incidental. Need more information.

edit2: You also need to define the term "speeding". >99% of drivers speed. When the speed limit is 50, everyone drives 60. When the speed limit is 60, everyone drives 70. When I'm driving on the freeway in my city, speed limit of 70km/h in some parts, I drive about 80km/h. Even when I'm going 10 over the limit, people are still passing me, obviously going quite a bit faster than 70.

When you're on the road and you start ranting about how slow Chinese people drive, because they drive exactly the speed limit, remember that you are speeding. Please define exactly how fast the drunk guy was going and what the speed limit was. Also, how fast was the family going? If drunk guy is going 10 over the limit, and asshole dad is driving 30 over the speed limit, I would say the drunk guy is absolutely not at fault. In that particular case, drunk guy should get charged with drunk driving, but not be held responsible for asshole dad driving too fast and killing his family.
