For some things, but I personally would not bother with buying very sensitive equipment like computer parts on ebay.

Others have and have good experiences though, to each their own.
 
If you buy from a trusted seller, then I wouldn't have any worries.
If it is a very expensive item, I normally only purchase from sellers that list a phone number.
For me it just makes myself feel a little better knowing I can actually call and get a hold of someone if there is a problem rather than just relying on emails mesages back and forth.
 
It's relatively safe. The only issue I have with buying hardware through eBay is that I've never had any luck with picking anything up at a real good deal. Usually after all the competing bids and then shipping charges, it's really not that much more of savings than if I bought something here at the For Sale forum or at a retail store.

I've had better luck picking up collectables instead.
 
It depends on what you're buying, and if they even know what the heck they're talking about...

If you're buying COMPUTER parts, I highly recommend the FS/FT forum here on anand. Everybody knows their stuff, and you can ask around.

Also, for certain parts, you will want a new one. Mostly parts that may have taken a lot of abuse, 'cause you're not sure what the previous owner did with them.
 
The forum is still my preferred place to buy/sell, but depending on the situation ebay can be better. I personally have never had any major problems on ebay, but I'm a picky buyer/seller.
 
I have bought many things on EBay - especially computer parts not available anywhere else. Right now am bidding on a Canon lens that has not been available anywhere since last September. I pay through PayPal - and have never had a problem. Everything delivered has been as advertised.

 
I prefer to spend a few extra dollars and get delicate/sensitive/electronics things from established on-line stores and what-not. I don't like dealing with ebay then having to putz around if there are problems.
 
I prefer to purchase from the FS/FT forum here. I look for a long-standing member with good "heat"

Depends. The few things I have bought have been fine, and a few folks have gotten good deals on quality used parts on stuff I've sold. Check the feedback...
