Would you guys expect insurance to total this truck?

One of the employees had a bad accident last week. Adjuster is coming sometime this week to take a look. Truck does start but radiator is pushed against fan, fan against engine. Blown passenger tire.

2005 Dodge 2500 quad cab V8 Hemi, 76,000 miles

KBB says its worth anywhere from 17-19k

No, that can be fixed for 10k or less I bet.

I would not want it back myself and I would ask for diminished value if they do fix it.
Did the air bags go off?

Airbags did not go off. He's actually looking at it right now. Will find out in a few! Said the frame has been definitely damaged though.

my sister in law did something similar in a dakota and it was totalled out, but she managed to tweak the cab too, airbags off, etc

Is it body on frame now, or unibody. If it's unibody, they can straighten it out and it isn't horribly expensive and then they just have to replace about 2-3k worth of other components. I had a similiar accident in Neon, engine compressed inside, front bumper gone, fenders and lights gone but no flat tire. Also didn't have the airbags deploy. Only cost them 3-4k to fix it. Sure your damage is going to be more expensive but the truck would be worth more. Without a deployed airbag it's going to be hard for them to write it off.

Sorry, I don't think that's even remotely close to totaled. Needs bumper rebar and rad support for sure...even if the frame needs to be pulled, it's still not likely to be totaled unless the engine was destroyed.

Monetary wise it may be close to the required % for a total, but that bumper is wrapped around the front frame rails.. IMO the pics are a little deceiving.

Not totaled

Said he was at about $9550 in damage. Said he needs to look up the actual value but said the shop needs to take a closer look at the frame to see if any damage is present. The gaps between the fender and the doors are closer, needs replaced.

Also I'm guessing the value is anywhere from 15-18. So it looks like the repair process is going to start happening soon.

Yeah, I was wondering how the frame is set up on that truck. I'm picturing old cars that just have the two framerails/impaling devices sticking out the front, strapped together with the k-frame and rad support. I'm guessing that truck is probably boxed in at the front? If it's got a crossbrace out there that's made of the same steel as the frame, it would probably pull the rails perpendicular to it inward.

I have no idea to what extent shops will repair a frame. I know that with a proper jig, they can do a pretty good amount. Worries me, though...it's strong steel, but bending followed by un-bending weakens any metal.

Yep sounds right.
But again I would not want it back and I hope they get a good diminished value check out of it as well.

Totally unibody full size pickup...

Close to but not at the totaling limit of 75%.

However, if a closer look by the ship determines additional $2-3K of work, it will be totaled.

You sure about that? I know in 2009 the Ram pickup had what appeared to be a full boxed-type frame.

That's a 2009 Ram demo frame from Dodge.

And thats not a 2009. In 2007.5 they changed the headlights into the ones with the Arched top on the 2500/3500. They also changed the tail lights. I believe the version of truck in the OP went from 2002-2007.

🙁

Of course that's not really full size so I get a pass right?

And yeah that one I was just poking fun at the idea of a unibody full size pickup.

Sorry I don't like trucks. Their big, obnoxious, damn near useless to most of their buyers, and tend to be driven by dicks. Most of that isn't the trucks fault, but it is the reason I don't really follow them.

We had a similar accident in our explorer. Wasn't 2-3k damage though, easily topped 9k and that wasn't with a full evaluation, but we had already determined it was more than it was worth.

Small accidents can add up fast, that doesn't look like a small accident.

I didn't mean for the accident itself just a lot of small things. I expect this to easily top 10k. But at KBB 17k I wouldn't think it would be totaled. So 5-8k on the major components and straightening and another 2-4 to swap out things like lights, fenders, bumper, hood and so on.
