Would you guys consider someone who can't pass the Comp TIA A+ cert stupid?

Not neccessarily... the software portion of the test certainly isn't easy. I had to study for that portion a good bit.

Not necessarily, it depends on if they were geared more towards hardware or software. If they are touting themselves as computer experts though, I might be a little worried.

What's the average someone should take to prep for this test? A week, month, few months?

no.

If the failed their IQ test that would make them stupid. This just means they didn't know some computer related questions. It doesn't even mean they don't know computers, since there are hundreds of divisions of computer knowledge.

Can a qualified PC tech pass SQL test? doubt it, but they may turn circles in PC support.
Can a qualified domain admin write C sharp code/pass a test? Maybe, but but I'd bet they are better at maintaining user accounts and setting up policies.
Can a user pass A+? Probably not, but they may be able to make an excellent word doc, you know the ones with proper formatting and maybe a good table of contents...

I studied for a month and passed both exams in about 15 min or so.

Edit: I took the exams right before they changed the format, so they might be a little harder now.

No, just in general. I haven't even attempted to pass it yet however I do do the practice tests that I have from my book and I don't always pass with flying colors.

I still haven't taken this test. I'm not even sure if its worth much anymore though. I need to study up on those stupid I/O addresses and look over some of the bus lengths again. I used to have that stuff down...but how often do you actually need to know say the length of the 286's address bus on a daily basis anymore?

Then no, that person would not be stupid. That is just like asking, if a person doesn't read a biology book, and fails a biology test, is he stupid?

I know it will help me tremendously since I do not have any experience or education yet. I dunno, I'm just trying my best to find something in between that isn't a McJob like office work.

Depends... did they actually TRY hard to pass it... if so, and still failed, then yes.

Come on people, the A+ cert is probably the easiest cert you can get on this planet. If you can't get that, then what hope do you have of getting a job that pays more than $8/hr?

If I took the A+ cert I would probably(most likely) fail. If I studied I'm sure I can pass it, but I haven't seen what it looks like anyway.

If they studied for it and failed then yes.

I passed all the MCSE exams on the first go round. Anywhere from 2-4 weeks studying a piece while working 40-50 hours a week.

There is a difference between being stupid, and being ignorant.

You wouldn't be "stupid", but....

If you're ALREADY in the industry and can't pass the A+ after studying using an Exam Cram or TestTaker's Guide book, I'd have to wonder about how much weed you're really smoking.

If you're Joe Shmo off the street and you fail... no big deal. BUT if you're Joe Shmo off the street and you PASS, don't automatically assume you know everything about computers. ;)

Actually Cisco's CCNA is probably the easiest. I took it and it was very basic ;)
