Would you guys buy this T40? It has warranty until 11-2006

I saw this T40 posted for sale on another forum for about $400.00.

Seems like this has some issues but this is what it is:
2373-72U
20 gig hard drive
around 768 mb of ram
new battery
docking station (not sure which one)
cd burner
Dvd player
external keyboard
& laser mouse

The LCD may need a new bulb or sceen because it goes black every once in a while.

I was thinking of offering a little less than the $400.00 he's asking for, have the LCD replaced by IBM and then maybe keep it for my wife. Do you think it's even worth it?

Let the guy take a pic of the back of the T40 and make sure you get a clear shot of the S/N so that you make sure he isn't bluffing first. Take that serial number and check it at IBM's website to see how much time do you really have left on that warranty.

You might want to look at the specs at IBM's website : link
to see if everything is up to your expectations.
Then if what you are saying is true, and IBM will replace the LCD bulb with no further problems, I think that is a nice deal what you are getting, but it's too nice that's what's worrying 😉

Also make him take pics of the entire laptop to be sure that it doesn't have any unmentioned problems (like physical abuse and so on)
Good luck.

HI guys,
I verified that the warranty is good until 11/06 like the person mentioned. I just wanna see the physical condition of the rest of the notebook. I was going to offer something like $250.00 to the guy and then I could just get the keyboard replaced as well.

Also check eBay for replacement LCD's.

Definitely call Lenovo and check the serial number, make sure its not stolen or anything and confirm warranty.

That said, I wouldn't spend total cost more than $800-$900 for that unit. You can buy a new Lenovo N100 dual core business notebook for that much, not same build quality but better than an avg consumer machine I'm sure. Also numerous HP and Acer notebooks in $800-900 price range that are new.

I paid $650 for one like that with 60GB and 1GIG RAM, warranty next day till sept, legal shipped here on AT.

It's a decent deal, make sure the ownership is clear.

Is that a Pentium M? If yes and it's under warranty, that's a fine deal with the accessories. All you may want to get is a 7200 rpm hard drive. Of course, the wifey should get you a new T60 in return...
