... to save every person/animal who lives in your current house.

Yes for me. Wife, a dog and 2 cats.

What if I live alone with no animals?

Would you give your life to save your life? Sounds vaguely preacheresque, don't it?

I live alone with no animals.

even if you wanted to extend it to the entire complex.... no. my ex-best friend's little brother and his fiance are next door, but my life > theirs.

Of course I would. If someone answers no they would have to be extremely selfish and cold hearted.

I'd risk my life for anyone I live with or any of my friends. Maybe it's because I don't have much in terms of self-preservation skills. I think I'm going to be a great candidate for the Darwin awards.

I don't know what would happen; I'm the only living thing here. Well, there might be a mouse upstairs yet, and that would really kind of suck.

I did have a ball python, but it died. :(
I fed the critter before bed, and when I woke up, he was dead with half a mouse sticking out of his mouth. No idea what the hell went wrong.

Hell, even the plant I had brought along from home died. There's just no good sunlight coming in these windows, and it's cloudy quite often.

Probably so. I'd certainly like to think I would if it came down to it...

WOULD I? The answer is unclear. Try again.

Good answer. It's easy to brag about life or death decisions on a forum, a very different matter when trying to face probable death with uncertainty all around.

That said, knowing how you'd like to be in advance is a good start.

I rent a room in a house and don't really know any of the people who live here.

If you think that I should still give my life to save the lives of a couple complete strangers, then I would ask what you have personally done about the Darfur situation. Surely donating some money to save the lives of strangers is less of a chore than giving your entire life.

No. I'm extremely cold hearted, lacks sympathy, and I don't believe in any of the karma and golden rule BS.
