Would you get a 15 inch LCD ($350 or so) or a 19 inch ($215 or so) normal monitor if you were buying a new monitor? What are the pros and cons to each?

I just got a 19" Sony G420. I would've gotten a 17" LCD if I could've afforded it though. I'd definitely pick a 19" screen over a 15" LCD. 15" just isn't enough desktop space IMO.

I always thought that there was a much bigger difference between a 15" and 17", than a 17" or 19" display. I guess that pretty much goes for all the other screen sizes too. 21" isn't that big enough of jump over the 19" to make it worthwhile for me either. Neither is the difference from 14" to 15".

I guess what I'm trying to say is that 17" is the sweet spot. If you are going with a CRT, why not go with a 19" because the price difference is hardly anything. If you are going with a LCD, I would definitely spring for a 17".

go with the 19inch. the bigger the better. i admit the LCDs are very nice and sleek, but the additional 3 inches or so comes in handy. your eyes go crazy after a while.

Look in Hot Deals. There's a thread about getting a Samsung 950p (great 19 incher) for $199 shipped. Can't beat that.

If you can try to go for the Dell P991 seriously, it's a bit over ur budget but it's a very nice monitor with a very nice warranty.

I'd get an LCD (and I did) I can't stand all the heat a CRT gives off. Makes my room like a frikkin sauna! If you don't mind the heat though, and it's a good flatscreen CRT, I'd pick the CRT. I can't stand that damn heat though.

I'll save some more and get 17" or 16" with 1280x1024 native resolution.

I'm hooked to my lcd :)
I can't stand reading on CRT anymore to much radiation :p.

If you can feel the radiation, I think you're head is too close to your monitor... :)

It depends on the 19" monitor. If it's one with a flat screen(e.g. FD Trinitron, or Diamondtron NF) then definately go for the 19" over the 15" lcd screen.

I have an IBM P96 monitor (19" FD Trinitron) and that is what I use when I am at home rather than the 14.1" XGA TFT LCD screen on my laptop.
