Would you fire people who take the last of the coffee but refused to make a fresh pot afterwards?

I mean, seriously. Seriously. This always happens at my company. How fucking hard is it to brew a fresh cup of fucking coffee!?!? It takes two minutes at the most. Find strainer which is conveniently located in the drawer next to the brewer, open a pre-measured sized bag of coffee, put it all together and press BREW!

I'd fire anybody wasting their time making fucking coffee on company time.

You should only fire someone for being rude if being polite is part of their job description.

BTW, it sounds like you're a cup low. You might want to brew your own this time. ;)

I like finding empty or nearly empty coffee, usually the whole IT dept goes to get coffee at the same time, so even a half pot isn't enough and we'll stand around chatting while we brew the next pot. We never leave an empty on there.

However, would suck to make a pot and no one drink it and it ends up filling the hall w/ burnt coffee smell

We have one of those auto-brew machines that makes coffee by the cup. There are like 10 options for different kinds of coffee. You just put your cup under and press a button.

The coffee isn't great but it comes out in less than 10 seconds and its always hot, fresh and most importantly - free.

of two minds on this.
i know its a tradition to always make coffee ....
but coffee is best fresh, so it depends on the traffic. if you leave a new pot heated for hours its just going to get rather gross ...

why make a pot of coffee that no one will drink or that might sit there for hours on end when the next person who wants coffee can just spend 2 minutes making their own fresh pot?

Sadly, in the work environment you learn how many people lack manners (not making a fresh pot of coffee) and personal hygiene (not washing their hands after going to the bathroom).

Or maybe the company should fork over a little bit more $$$ for larger brewing stations.

There are people who were raised to consider other people, and then there were those whose parents never had that notion occur to them.
They just don't get it.
Amazingly, some people never consider what the consequences of their actions will be. They simply take the first impulse that occurs to them,
end of story.

Our brewing station has three hot plates for coffee brewing containers. There is a main hot plate where the coffee is brewed. Our coffee brewing containers aren't heated as they are thermoses so no burnt coffee ever.

Our coffee brewing containers (pots) are thermoses so they aren't constantly heated by the hot plates.

Why would I fire them? More like I'd promote them. They have proven their ability to delegate menial tasks like coffeepot refilling to someone like you to focus on activities higher on the value chain.

it could still end up sitting around for hours, though, or just getting thrown out. seems like a waste if it only takes 2 minutes to brew a fresh pot.

Nope, they have proven that they are too lazy (self-important) to contribute to the good of the company no matter how small.

Doubt it. Its centrally located. In fact, after brewing two pots consecutively, I'll go back 30 minutes later and both pots will be empty again.

I'll fill it if it's early in the day but I usually run across a nearly empty pot later in the evening...making a new pot would be a waste- I know only maybe 1 other person would have a cup...so in that situation I dont...but I feel a little bit bad as I walk away...
