Would you ever buy a refurb LCD?

Updates - yes, up to an additional 3 years can be purchased on the BenQ (that adds another $75 though) - the Viewsonic only has the one year through the manufacturer, but the normal dead pixel (3 white/black or 6 colour=RMA) policy still applies.

Now that I've got my 17" on order, my dad's got monitor envy. He wants a TFT but only wants to drop around CDN$300 on it.

In that pricerange, there's only a few options. Two of which are a refurb Viewsonic LCD1550V (1 yr mfr) or a BenQ FP567 (90 day mfr).

I'm inclined to stay the hell away from refurbished LCDs. Dead pixels, backlight life, etc ...

Anyone care to justify my fears/tell me to STFU/anything?

Funny thing I got one from Tiger direct (keep laughter down) a long time ago and it worked great actually I got 3 gateway 15" sold 2 only one had 1 bad pixel. 🙂

I bought a NEW 17" TFT LCD for $239 after MIR and amazon $50 GC. DVS-Sam 17. Except for 1 single dead pixel, its absolutely gorgeous. heck its beautiful even with the dead pixel. Not an ounce of complaints here.
