Would you ever buy a counterfeit watch?

I am thinking about purchasing a watch for myself. I cannot afford a rolex, and I imagine most people here cannot either. I was wondering if anybody had ever considered purchasing one (from a Hong Kong seller on ebay for example). I realize that it is not an official rolex but it would still look nice. Any opinions? Also if this counterfeit stuff is not allowed on here can the mod please close this thread.

Don't waste your money. I bought a fake about 15 years ago. The crystal fell out within a few days and the jewelry stores in town refused to fix it. Money down the drain.

That was the last time I tried that routine.

I got a stolex when I was in NYC ~7 years ago, and a pair of Ookleys.

how was the quality? Do you still own them?

I don't have either. The glasses fell apart before I even got home, and the finish on the watch was coming off within a month of wearing it.

i got a mulvado in nyc , back a few months ago. still ticking... it's really well made... i'll wear this when i visit taiwan in two days... how ironic eh?

If you're looking to impress someone, get a Folex.

If you're intrigued by the mechanism, get a Russian.

I have had my watch for almost a year now, and I've never set the time except twice the first week. The only adjustment is for the occasional short month.

Nice... The only reason I was asking is because, a watch is a watch; and if I can have a nice looking imitation (that looks identical except isn't made of 24k gold) then I would like to purchase one. Aesthetically they are the same. Only difference would be the materials that were used in constructing it.

Meh. I'm all for function over form.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I had a Rolex Submariner perfect weight, markings, everything, automatic, but I broke it by "riding my Hyabusa into a lamppost at 230mph and walking away with only a scratch and a bruise, to be picked up by my bangalicious girlfriend in her stick S2000 and driving off into the sunset".

Actually, I broke it by accidentally slamming it against a table.

With my Russian, I almost daily knock it into tables and sh!t harder than that and it just laughs at the table and continues ticking.

One very cool feature about it is this: After a hard enough impact or shake, it will slow down/stop to recalibrate everything, then speed up a little faster to make up for the lost time that it lost while recalibrating.

This is all done with a no battery mechanical mechanism.

I spent a good week violently shaking it so that the second hand would stop, then watching it speed up to catch up to the real time, and alays keep the exact same time as my cell phone.

I bought a fake Movado off a buy in Times Square years ago just for the experience. It was actually a decent watch for $10 and kept good time. On a cursory inspection, it was passable, and the only reason I got rid of it was because the battery died. I didn't care enough to replace the battery (lasted a few years, also).

If you cannot afford the real thing, then by all means get a Seiko or Citizen.

Fake estate watches are really tacky and the folks that own the real thing (me!) can spot a fake from across the room.

Well, it all depends on how good the fake is. I've seen good ones and bad ones.

A bad fake was when the glass covering the actual watch actually literally fell out. A really good fake was when only the colors of the logo were a bit messed up, and some minor details.

It all depends on how good/bad the fake is, and also pay accordingly. I would personally never buy a watch online, or a car, unless they are from an autorised reseller.

Both cars and watches (amongst other things) are best bought offline, in the real world.

I wouldn't, but then I'm not really big on form. If a $10 Timex can do the same thing as a $5,000 Rolex, I would opt for the Timex even if I were filthy rich.
