Human flesh sauted in a nice reduced balsamic vineager based sauce would be at least a little more palatable.D:

Edit: I set this up first as a "tongue in cheek" thread mainly with a satire based humor but with a slight undertone of wanting to explore the moral choices people face in extreme situations. (This scenario actually did happen in the Andes mountains where people had to eat other people. See the movie if you didn't.)

So I do not get it why someone started a thread (It was locked.) saying this was a "ridiculous situation". (Like it would never happen yet obviously it actually did happen and real people had to make morally disturbing decisions.)

Sure. How about this one?

Your wife and kids were stranded with you. Your wife succumbed to injuries and rescue was weeks away. Would you feed your wife to your kids to keep them alive?

A man goes into a restaurant and orders albatross soup. he eats one bite and kills himself.

why?

moral dilemma? That would last for about one day of starvation, maybe two if I got a spark of hope from some possible sign somewhere that possibly pointed to rescue in the sometime after now. You know how that goes.

I'd like to respect the dead, and that's why I'd give myself one last day or two of waiting to be rescued, trying to survive on any random scraps I could find to keep from passing out.

But survival is a different animal than civilized behavior. One should never expect such passive methods of life when your next hour isn't guaranteed. It is not morally wrong to become such an animal when the ends do justify the means for your continued existence. And hell, if there's some dead body over there that's not rotting yet (or was preserved, per the OP), and there's one or more starving humans, and the situation is food or rescue in the next three hours or we're dead? There's a choice in this matter?
Basic instinct and correct approach to life, for all creatures: preservation of the living, all goals oriented toward keeping you and yours in this game.

In a group of humans fighting nature and getting their asses handed to them, every action is (should be) directed toward keeping alive those who are still among the living, and if living depends on eating and the nearby dead human represents the only remaining food source in the visible vicinity, well... so be it.

And personally, as a human, while it's cool and all that we have such awesome standards for the treatment of our dead, I have no objections to my body being consumed by starving humans.
Just don't kill me for my flesh, that's all I ask. I'd want to remain alive just as much as you. Unless I'm already dying, then I'd surrender this bag of bones and nourishment.
That's a big no-no. Slaughtering our own is not the way to go to live, we have to remain above that. We already fail at that routinely as a species, but it's - hopefully - rarely driven by the urge to then eat them. ;)

I respectfully disagree with the desire to respect the dead if eating the dead is the only way to avoid joining the dead. :D

Eating it would be the easy part.

Preparing the food would be sickening. Skinning, butchering, gutting is terrible.

Yes. I find it retarded how taboo this kind of topic is.

Just because of the fact how taboo eating dogs, cats & humans is, given the chance to try it one day, I would.

I would never eat human flesh. It will taste horrible.

You can compare it with the meat from a caged chicken on a simple diet and a chicken that was able to move around freely having a more diverse diet.
A professional athlete would have more muscle and less fat, but also be on a diet that will make him or her taste horrible. I do not know if it is urban legend, but most predators (previous a non human diet)only kill humans but do not prefer to eat humans unless there is no other food option. Of course, some animals just prefer easy prey and when taught will prey on humans.

Besides that, eating the flesh of something that is similar to you will cause disease sooner or later unless you want to turn your food into a charcoal brick.
Eating charcoal can be good for the digestive system but to much is to much.

Just the idea. *PUKES* D:

Clearly, if they just understood the sun rises in the east or were able to locate Polaris in the night sky they could have avoided crashing.

FYI: wikipedia link to the crash in question. The movie made is titled "Alive" if my memory servers serve correctly. I saw it when it was in the theater decades ago, definitely made you think about what you would do in such a situation.

Hell yeah. I would also try not to explain to their family what the hell happened (but I would be very nice to them in the future).

Is she hot? Also, is she now extra randy or extra non-randy?
