Would you drink raw milk?

Most all supermaket milk available today is pastuerized and homogenized. Even Organic milk is altered in these two ways.

If you had the option to buy raw organic milk: milk from cows raised organically and non-pastuerized (but tested to verify the bacteria count is safe) and non-homogenized, would you buy it? Assume the price is competitive.

Why or why not?
 
Is it cheaper? Is there any question of safety? Does it taste better? I'd have to weigh ALL those factors.

Not cheaper.

Say it's tested for bacteria. If it is found to be above legal requirements, that batch is sent to be pastuerized. Only batches that pass this test are sold as raw milk.

Taste is personal preference. (I haven't, yet, had raw milk so I don't have an opinion at this time).

Price is the same
Taste is unknown
Known to be safe (at least non deadly, but there is the possiblity of getting the sh!ts)

I'd try it once. I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it though.

Ah, the benefits of living in another part of the world. It's amazing how difficult it can be to obtain natural substances in the USA.
 
I grew up in Southern California (Redondo Beach) and Alta-Dena dairy offered raw milk, kefir, and IIRC yogurt.

Good stuff, and since the government inspected them much more often than a regular churn-burn dairy it was actually safer.

I wouldn't say the difference was huge though, you might not even be able to tell it apart from a really fresh glass of pasteurized.
 
lol I had never heard it called "raw milk" before. 😛

Grew up on a dairy farm... was raised on milk right from a bulk tank (but only when mom wasn't looking 😉 ). I'm still alive. I don't recall anyone else in the family ever developing any horrible illness as a result of it, either. 🙂
 
It tastes a lot better.If you have a decent dairy near you (not just an old lady with a dying cow) then raw milk is worth the trouble.
 
I've had milk straight from the cow (after skimming off the fat in the bucket), and I must say it is the most disgusting sh!t ever!!!
 
omg yes.... i love it!

i used to live next door to a farm. i'd just go over there and throw a dollar on the tank and fill up my jug. just shake and pour. it's so rich and creamy that you can feel it on your lips after you've had a glass. at least try it.
 
I can buy raw milk here in NEw York state, just have tod rive upstate a bit to get it. Because of the hassle I just buy milk from a local location which is not homogenized but pasteurized at the lowest temperature allowed by gvmnt.

And to me raw milk is tastier and makes me feel better than when drinking the commercial milk

common pasteurization techniques used by milk distributors/bottlers greatly diminish the taste of milk. buy ones that are pasteurized for longer times under lower temperatures!
