Serious thread
I was walking back into work from lunch the other day and one of my coworkers was sitting in the lobby looking kind of sad. I don't like seeing people sad, so I tried to cheer her up by being silly. She wasn't amused so I asked what I could do to make her feel better. Now here is the critical part of the story: I thought she asked if I had spare ram. I'm a dumbass and I wasn't really paying attention so I replied "yea I have two gigs!' Because I do have 2 gigs of ram. She looked really confused so I replayed the scene again in my mind and it was then I realized she had said "do you have a spare hard drive?"
She then asked me if I was using raid 1 with 1TB drives in our servers. Thinking I could get out of the conversation easily, with proof, I whipped out my Blackberry to lookup the specs of our server. BAM! we definitely have a raid 1 with two 1TB drives. Oh boy....I was 100% sure I wasn't ever going to have to deal with that kind of conversation. But you know what, if she was to the point where she was asking people at work for a hard drive, she for sure needs one more than I do.
I told her to let me know what I need to do to find out if I am a viable donor. I guess she is just starting the process and still has to get her chkdsk done. But I am a man of my word. So if she asked me tomorrow to donate, I would.
So what would ATOT do? I actually wonder what I would do if I had listened the first time and realized what she was asking. Would I have made up an excuse? Who knows.
I don't know if I'm ready to break a raid 1 array, but we'll see.
