Would you do this to your pet?

Vet said that my cat has a tissue or muscle injury on her front leg which is causing her to limp/not put weight on it. Vet advised to keep cat in a small room with little to jump on so she could get "rest up" and minimize use of that leg. I'm supposed to report back in a week.

my stepmother, who I'm temporarily living with, thinks this is cruel. She says I shouldn't leave my cat alone and that its wrong to do that. Also, she's worried the litter might get into the carpet. (Isnt that what vacuum cleaners are for?)

Anyways, what would you do? She has habits of jumping up on countertops and my stepmom thinks we can pick her up/put her down when we see this but I think I should follow doctors orders. The room is a second bedroom with an attached bathroom (that I share with my bedroom), so I'ts not like I wouldn't see her throughout the day.

I would do it; it's not cruel. At the vet they lock animals in a tiny cage for the whole day...

Do what your vet advises. Spend time with the cat when you can and it will be fine. We have had to keep various ones of our cats isolated at times for health reasons and it is not cruel at all.

Do what the VET says. Its cruel to let the cat injure itself anymore than it already has....

I would do it. Its not cruel. Hell, people have to stay in traction sometimes. Is that cruel? No, they have to follow the doctors orders. J

Just pay as much attention to her as possible. If it would help get her a big kennel (for a laborador). She has room to move, but you know she won't be jumping on anything. When you get home you could let her out and keep an "eye" on her.

I'll have to agree with everyone else. Cats will be just fine locked up in a boring room for just a week. They survive much harsher conditions. Sure the cat will whine and plead to be let out, but just go in there and give the cat lots of attention. Try some catnip toys or other things the cat can play with without jumping/running. I think a week of "cat jail" is far less cruel than a lifetime of injury.

As for the litter on the carpet, my apartment is all carpetted and we have two cats. Vacuums work quite well at getting it up.
