I've stood my watch... 8 years, and now I'm a civilian (going on 3 weeks now).

If it really came down to it, and if it meant a better life for my family, then probably. But it would really have to be a crucial situation.

I would rather not. As cruel as life can be some times I still enjoy it.

Only if my family was faced with an imminent threat ... but I'd try to avoid it.

Well... do I get virgins in heaven?

Of course.

They all just happen to be male and 12.

If Michael Jackson's going to heaven I want to be in hell.

For MY country? If it were actually necessary. For another country, say, Iraq? No.

QFT

If my country was actually threatened, yes. But I'll be damned if I'm going to go die in the desert for another country/oil/whatever else the excuse may be.

No, I can't think of a situation where I'd be willing to sacrifice my life for my country. I mean, I can't think of a situation where my one life would save a nation. As such, nope, my country can go to hell, I'll go somewhere else.

I would agree.

I have nothing but the utmost repect for those that are serving, have served, or died while serving in our armed forces. It's not up to them where they go.

Of course not... If it were someone that meant something to me maybe, but not for people I never met and dont care about

The way I see it is this. Freedom isn't free. It is the military in any country or its surrounding countries that preserve that countries way of life, its liberties, and freedoms.
I don't expect everyone to understand, or even be willing to make the commitment, or sacrifice needed, but thankfully for their sake, others are.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13)

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. (Voltaire)
