what a horrible question! I hope I never have to make that decision.

I guess that would depend on why.

what a horrible question.

I would probably sacrifice myself for someone I cared deeply about, but it depends on what kind of dependancies people have on me. It'd be pretty selfish to leave a wife and kids for my own personal reasons with disregard for them.

reminds me of the opening scene of "Vertical Limit"

elaboration?

That guy was way off..

There is a father, brother, and sister.....

They are experienced climbers, but some noobs above them dont know jack sh|t and end up falling down and as they fall their rope hits the father, rips him off, and suddenly all 5 of them are dangling. Then the 2 noobs fall off completely, and its just the father (bottom) brother (middle) sister (top). They are starting to break loose from their safetys, so the father tells the brother to cut him loose.

Finally the brother does, and they live... sister holds it against the brother for a long time.

ohh man, that situation is actually much harder than this poll...

Hard situation, yes, but considering its he dies or you, your sister AND your father dies.... easier.
In reguards to pollage... no, probably not.

yes but its you who is 'killing' your father by cutting the rope...no matter that technically it is the right thing to do, its still much harder when you have to do it yourself...cause then you'll constantly blame yourself for 'killing' your father.

At least my sister and I would be alive to blame me.

yes i understand that...and from a logical perspective that the correct answer...but when you're there dangling and hearing your father tell you to cut the rope, logic isnt really the first thing in your mind...to me thats a much harder decision: to let my parents die to save myself and my sister than to die to save my parents.

Actually it isn't. Parent goes before the child if there is a choice.

Yea and if your parents said they would sacrifice themselves for you, you would tell them not too also. And so what's your point? It's a natural reaction.
