If you bought a house, or if you already have, would you cable it yourself? I'm thinkin of runnin all the coax / network / phone cable myself. Anyone have any tips or advice? Where'd ya get your cable? I was thinking of maybe using this stuff here. But, it is a bit expensive (Although cost / ft is pretty decent).

I just got done wiring a building, trust me, that stuff SUCKS for wiring. better, cheaper, more flexible to buy spools of the wire type you need / are gonna need over the lifetime of your ocupency of your house, then go with that CRAP!

look at ATP modular products, or Unicom products. find or have a good closet (well vented) built and get a good rack, do a star topology, and read up on how to do it yourself. its easy but takes some time to do right. don't do electrical yourself if this is your first project, work with the electrician and get tips from them.

I can do a more extensive write up sometime. but this should get you started.

Thanks guys. It isnt a matter of difficulty, I know I can do it as cabling isnt real hard, just gotta remember what color codes you used. The cable company will put the drop in, but not cable the house. The builder charges as follows
$250 2 phone / 2 cable anywhere
$50 per each additional jack anywhere

So, 250 for dining room / living room, then another 100 for phone / cable to Mbedroom, another 100 fopr cable to other two rooms....Around 500 bucks. For that much, i think I can run the cable myself and do something pretty nice, with a cable / phone / ethernet jack in every room.

narzy...You dont recommend that all in one cable?? Could you link a few websites to some quality cables and distro boxes? I dont want anything expensive, but I will pay a little extra for quality. I thought wire was wire for the most part, and to just get shielded is the important part.

Again, thanks guys!

I've done it a few times, you can get your cable at a local hardware store (lowes, home base..). Or from a local electrician, and I'd suggest getting a fish tape reel .
