Would you, Could you make Margaritas with Rum instead of Tequila?

I know a lot of people generally aren't big tequila fans, so could you, would you make margaritas with rum instead? I guess technically it would be called a margarita flavored rum runner. Your thoughts?

Close. The sweet element in a daiquiri is either simple syrup or sugar, not an orange flavored cordial. And of course no salt. No matter how you look at it a margarita without tequila isn't a margarita. You can mix anything you want together, but you can't pass it off as something it's not.
