As I was driving to school yesterday morning, I saw a guy in a car fly by with the US flag halfway down his antenna and a Mexican flag at the top of the antenna. Do you think this shows disrespect regarding the events that recently happened? I don't blame the guy however...as some people might want to show patriotism but not completely understand the rules of flying a flag, even if it is on a car antenna.

i would say he flew it halfway up his antenna as a gesture honoring the victims of the attack. maybe he just should have flown both flags at the same level so as not to show any disrespect?

or do you think there was any intentional disrespect indended? i wouldn't have taken offense at this.

<< If you're offended by this you have a problem. >>

I never said I was offended. I asked if YOU would be offended, having the US flag waving half while another nation's flag was on top.

even if it wasn't at half staff to indicate mourning and it was there to indicate mexican superiority... does it really matter? not to slight mexicans, but i don't think we should be worried about mexico asserting superiority ;)

The rule (in the US) is that no other flag be positioned above the US flag. It's in the same class as not flying the flag at night without being illuminated, never touching the ground, etc.....

It's more of an ignorance thing then disrespect (probably/IMHO).

I'm still expecting some show to do a feature on "Flying the Flag," since it's become so popular these days. I'm guessing they don't teach it in schools much anymore.....

Offensive? No. Does it tell me about his loyalties? Yes. I personally am happy to see he was howing support for the United States. I think it would have been nicer not to place a flag of another country above that of your own. In fact, it is known fact that you do not fly any flag above that of the US Flag (in the US of course).

I am happy that he supports us.

yhea i think it sounds bad

did not know that light needs to be shone on it at night. yhea, i think the news should do a five or ten minute excerpt on it. i have been thinking about the rules for the last two days.

He probably just wanted to show respect for mexico (where he is likely from) and the US at the same time, and maybe put mexico first in recognition of Mexicans who died. You can't look too deeply into these things!

U.S. are made up of mixed culture so it is alright for someone to wave their own flag, it just tell other what nationality they are without saying so. Just waving an American Flag doesn't mean do squat other then a display of proudness. Hey we know we are American what the use of displaying it unless you deaf or something and can't say squat then that understandable. We are forgetting that being American doesn't mean white, doesn't mean black. It not a racist country like most other country such as China, Japan, India but all are united and that how this country came to be. Let say you are Chinese and live in Cambodia, most are going to hate you and want to kill you. It like this all over the world and that is sad. That why In America I think it very important that we all except each other whether black, white, etc. I find it very strange for someone from spain to use american flags because they have either 1. abandoned their culture. 2. thinking that this will make them more american. :)
